G Keyword tool results change when i input my website

I understand this has to do with geographical location?

when i dont enter my website i get 49K results for a term

when i enter my website the results are zero

Can someone explain how to fix this, what to do, what it means with detail.

What is the "location" or local for my site? where are people seeing my site in the results for this term and where are they not?

I'm still new to this, but I don't know how much I really trust Google's keyword too. I found one keyword with something like 1,000,000 monthly searches and "low" competition. I figured that would be an awesome keyword to target until I put it in Google to see just how much competition there really was. ~329,000,000 competing for that keyword. And the keyword tool told me that was low.
