Change Google Description in Wordpress

Hi,

My site, Mixed Martial Arts in Washington DC News Blog comes up on Google with the following description:

"Powered by WordPress and Pyrmont V2. Videos, Slideshows and Podcasts by Cincopa WordPress Plugin."

How do I change it? Is there a meta tag that I need to modify? If so, what file is it in?

Edit your sites "Meta Description" tag.

Actually your Index page doesn't have a "Meta Description", tag.

So you'll need to add that to your theme.

What you want to do is download and install the Platinum SEO Pack plugin. Then go to the plugins settings page and fill out the "home description" field (Don't forget to click the "update options" button).

I use "All In One SEO" plugin... You can download it from the Wordpress website (it's free by the way, in case you are wondering)... For convenience, the following is a direct link to download it:

WordPress › All in One SEO Pack WordPress Plugins

After you have installed and activated the plugin, you will see a "All In One SEO" link under "Settings" (on your left where all the clickable option links are).

Once you have clicked on the link, you can change the text you want Google to display in their description for your website in the "Home Description:" field.

Its free.Install it.You can edit the description using this plugin.

It will take take some time till Google indexes change of meta description.

One week tops, if it's a blog, just ping it, i wont be more than 2days to be changed. If it's static maybe more, depends on the sitemap.

Looks like I'll have to try out All In One SEO pack. I was wondering if anyone knows the name of the specific file that I can directly modify to change the meta tag?

You need to add the "Meta Description" tag inside the "header.php" file, between the <head> / </head> tags.

Hi Jun,

The All In One SEO Pack plugin is good. But I recently switched over to the Platinum SEO Pack plugin. Which by the way offers a few additional settings. Like the ability to set posts/pages to "noindex, follow". I think this is a great feature, especially if you don't want certain pages indexed (like privacy policy, terms of use, and affiliate disclosure pages).

i would like to know how this works. Big G is still showing random text from my category page as the description in the search results rather than the description i have used for the categories in wordpress, ... anyone know how to fix or is it just waiting for G to rescan?
