Edit: the lowest search phrase VOLUME that made sales for you. (i wasn't expecting anyone to reveal their actual keywords, lol) Ok, i've been doing keyword research on a range of physical products and just wondered if some of those really "low hanging fruit" search terms actually make a sale for you. ![]() For instance, some exact search phrases have only 320, 500 or 720 searches a month but the items are pretty much specialised or fairly uncommon to the general public so i would have thought that it's more likely to sell (i could be really wrong about that) . It seems like pretty much nearly ALL the keywords that have searches above lets say 12,000 are a no no because of high competition. Competing for "medium to high" competition keywords is not ideal for me as a newbie at the moment. Ultimately my question is... are any of you making regular sales when the item is rarer and search volume is really low as opposed to attacking high search keywords with popular items? whats you're experience? |

I have personally found that those low search volume keywords don't bring much traffic, thus no sales. Or maybe 1 sale every 6 months. Now it's a different thing if you have a bunch of low search volume keywords around a common type of product and then you build a site and use all those keywords phrases. I've found that 1900 exact searches is a good number that you can still find keywords that aren't too competitive. Hope that helps! Lee |

ripley607, you don't say that you're using the Google keyword tool, but it sounds like you are. It's not always accurate. I have a few sites whose main keywords supposedly only get about 100-320 exact match searches per month, but the actual number of visitors is much greater. (At the moment, all of the traffic is from Google, as these sites haven't been indexed in Bing or Yahoo! yet.) I've also found that some keywords that show "not enough data" in the keyword tool actually do get enough traffic to make SEOing for these keywords worthwhile. After too many hit-or-miss experiences (mostly misses), though, I've been setting up AdWords campaigns to test keyword search volume and conversions before going "all out" on the SEO. The number of impressions your ads get is a better indicator of search volume than any keyword tool. |

Well i'm actually using micro niche finder and googles keyword tool. Going by the replies so far i think it could still be possible to go for low search keywords as long as i have some kind of system in place. As they say, "the best teacher is experience" (man i sound like my dad now) so i might as well go ahead and give it a try. thanks again. |
