Is forum profile a good way to get back links?

The forum profile links I build seem to show up with more regualrity and consistency in Yahoo Site Explorer than others types of links. So I say yes, it's worth doing profile links as part of your overall backlink strategy.

I personally love forum posting for backlinks. I learn new things and give back to communities while building backlinks (so I don't feel like I'm justing using them). Forums that get crawled often work best because you're more likely to get credit for your backlinks faster. Just make sure you don't go forum to forum with intent to spam your links all over the place. Signatures work great from my experience.

As much as backlinks from forums are great, I wouldn't waste your time replying to posts just to try to gain ranking. There are a lot of quicker and easier was get backlinks that are a lot more relevant.
Forum links are good, but when are you are backlinking on Social Networking and other high traffic websites you will notice that this will work a lot better for you.

From SEO point of view, I cant imagine why Google should give you credit for a link 'you' generated by signing up at a forum and linking back to your site.

Its no different than signing up at twitter and pointing out to yourself. Should the search engines give an weight to links that 'you' obviously created?

I dont think so. They do NOW, but in time I am sure that will change.

Worst part is if they give less weight to these forum profile links, then, everyone and their dog will invest in an XRumor in order to get more profile links to match the reduced weight given by the search engines.

I guess that is what you get for doing your own thinking. They do, and that is why people do it. I am sure that Google knows it, and I am sure they take it into consideration. Maybe they are rewarding people that work hard to promote their site. Maybe they figure that if you put in a lot of time building these links, then you deserve to get your site high on the SERP and get some decent traffic. Then again, maybe not. Who the hell knows?

I purchased profile link packages in the past and have found them completely worthless and a waste of time and money. Unless you actually reply on the threads, most profile links are not indexed. You can verify this for yourself by analyzing your site. I have been an active member on over 50 car forums for over 5 years now (it's my hobby) and most of them do not index signatures although there are some that do which can be verified through analytics.

I would say unless you are an active member on a do follow forum that indexes sigs, dont waste you time and money. Here is an article I found that will backs up my case.

According to me forum signature deliver you most reliable, stable and genuine backlinks rather than other techniques. if you want to increase your rank positions in major search engines then forum posting can help you in many ways.

Yes, forum profiles are an EXCELLENT source of backlinks! Especially when the Root domain is of a PR6 or Higher!

Do they count if they are not indexed and show as backlinks? Like I said. I have been an active member on over 40 automotive forums with signatures in all and only a small amount of them are indexed which I can be verified. There is a false hype about profile links. They don't count unless they're indexed. That's why I pointed out that it is best to place links in profiles whose parent domain has a PR of 6 or higher. Those sites are being crawled constantly by Google, so there is a much higher chance that the profiles will be indexed & the links will count.

So help me understand why someone would spend time and money for a probable outcome? Isn't this why we have software and analytics? It cuts through the crap to find reliable sources. Sorry I don't work hoping for something to happen. A high PR does not guarantee indexation. Sounds like throwing a bunch of links at a site and hoping something sticks. With Google, Nothing is Probable. However, experience has taught me that Profile backlinks definitely work to increase a website's ranking. If they didn't, I wouldn't have one of my sites ranking on the first page of Google for 10+ keywords, as the majority of my backlinks are from profiles.

I guess the only way to verify if your site is ranked due to profile backlinks it to do a PR and Anchor text report and analysis. Looking at your sig you obviously have an invested interest in those links .

There are two types of forum posting. One is to put the link in the signature of the profile. This is called profile link building. This is not useful; forums are not related to the keywords and may be defined as spam easily and removed by the administration.

Other type is making a persona in high traffic popular forum and post useful and positive response there. Then put the link in the signature. This will not marked as spam. However a huge audience can gather from here.

I think a lot of people on this thread are confusing forum profile links with forum posting and THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING...

Forum profile links do not work well anymore and getting more than a handful may actually be counter productive! This isn't really even new since google has been penalizing people who go out and get 1000's of forum profile links for quite some time.

That doesn't mean that forum posting isn't a great way to get backlinks, as long as you provide quality comments and link to quality forums. But forum posting and forum profile links are not the same thing. If you are going to use forum profile links, link them to URL's that you are linking directly to your money site. This way they will get indexed faster can still provide some value.

Do a quick search on this forum for forum profile backlinking and you will find that it is not effective anymore and not a great idea by any means.
