Default Help Understanding On Using Keyword domains

Hello,

I had a question on keyword domain rich names.

My current site is a branded name and after not seeing me in the top searches for my keywords, I thought I would seek some keywords in my market that I would be able to compete for.

I have a list of keywords that I feel are pretty good. My question is, should I look to create articles around those keywords or buy the domains and then put some content on there and just link it back to my site and use my PR to leverage that?

I have a PR 4 on my site currently.

There are some keyword domains that I can snatch up right now that look to be really good with the .co in them.

However, I don't want to spend the money on domains if I could just create content of my money site.

Thanks.

Undoubtedly stick with your existing site. A branded domain name is the right choice. Certainly don't move stuff to a new domain: even if you 301-redirect everything correctly, you are guaranteed to lose a certain unknown amount of PR and link juice.

IMHO, don't bother with microsites: SEO experience strongly suggests you should stick to one site.

You can still buy some keyworded domains (they are potentially powerful only if there's an exact match, to a letter, with a search phrase you are targeting). You can 301-redirect those domain names to your main site and build a handful of links to each of those redirected URLs, to get some benefit out of them. Don't overdo it though, I suggest don't redirect more than a handful of such domains.

I hope this helps!

Hello,

Thanks for the input,

I would not be starting a whole new site for my branded name.

I am in a highly competitive market where PPC cost are around $5 a click,

My thought was to rank those sites under those niche keywords and then capture emails with an offer and some articles with some being reviews and being an affiliate.

Then also pushing them back to my money site.

I have also seen mixed things on micro sites, the main one that I have recently read is that it will keep competitors out getting those domains and that having the domain keyword site will do better since its what is being searched. Since most can redo and make a better post having the micro site will give you the edge. I could be wrong since this is not my area of expertise. I am pretty new to this.
