What do you think about using the same meta description for every post on a review blog? Example: Don't buy [post title] until you've read this review. Would this be beneficial for SEO purposes? Or just a way of not having to think about the description? |

Meta descriptions (and meta keywords) have very little, if any, affect on SEO. Most engines ignore both from a ranking perspective, including Google. However the meta description is still VERY important. Many search engines display it as the snippet of text after the <title> but before the URL in their organic SERPs. Google may or may not display it. Optimizing your meta description can drastically include your click-thru-rates from the organic SERPs. Knowing how Google chooses whether or not to show your meta description as the search snippet or construct a snippet will help you to maximize the number of times it is shown as the snippet. Having a well written meta description that accurately describes the page being linked to from the SERPs with a compelling call to action will increase the click-thru-rate. |
