Yeah - I mostly use the 336x280 size adblocks on my site, and as soon as the new layout was implemented my CTR dropped by about a third. Quite understandably, I was a little worried and a little peeved. A few days and a few colour-tweaks later, and I managed to get it back up to (and better than) what it was before. Now it's all good, although I still missed out on what should otherwise have been a good weekends worth of earnings. I'll survive |

Prior to the adblock layout changes, I was using the following colour combinations: Ad title here Great deals on bla-de-blaa today, righ here. http://whatever.com But as soon as the change happened, my CTR dropped significantly as the ad looked more like this: Ad title here http://whatever.com Great deals on bla-de-blaa today, righ here. ... So I simply changed my colours to look like this: Ad title here http://whatever.com Great deals on bla-de-blaa today, righ here. ... and my CTR went back to normal, and often times better than it was. I can only imagine that the initial ad, having a light-coloured description, provided enough of a break between the clickable ad url and the link to make most peoples eyes just stick to the title. When it changed and the slightly darker URL moved next to the ad, perhaps it looked more clearly like an advertisement. I don't know, I'm just speculating ![]() Anyway, now that the URL is a light colour and not so distracting; and the ad description is darker and more distracting; their eyes are either going to be on the ad text or the ad title. Since the title is the only clickable part of the two, that's what they'll ultimately end up doing. Of course, my assumption could be totally and woefully incorrect. What do I know? | |

If you want to keep your visitors on their toes then YieldBuild (the off-shoot from HubPages) keeps changing your Ad colors and fonts. I'm not sure if it works but I believe they can work out what is best for your site.

Oh no - sorry. I use a dark grey (very dark - almost black) for the ad description/text, which matches the colour of my sites main content text (I rarely use jet-black). I'm colour blind, though, and thought my colour selection above was dark grey, lol (d'oh) ![]() I'm from Hull ( ) |
