Google Team sent me a message, where they had analyzed one of my sites, How Does A Reverse Mortgage Work, and recommended me to use the setting ”Text and image ads” instead of only ”Text ads”. They argued, that my AdSense earnings would be better. For me the AdSense earnings are critical, because this site is monetized only with AdSense, there is zero on-page product links. They said also, that at least 50% of the ad-blocks should show both the text and image ads to get the maximum AdSense earnings. By enabling image ads, you’re also eligible to have advertisers use placement targeting to show their ads on your site. So I did, what they recommended and, yes, they were right. The AdSense earnings really increased substantially, how much exactly is impossible to calculate but we can talk about a jump. So try this trick, if you want higher AdSense earnings. To opt into text and image ads, follow these steps: ** 1. In your AdSense account, select the “AdSense Setup” tab and go to “Manage Ads.” ** 2. Edit each existing AdSense unit to display ‘Text and image ads’. ** 3. Under your “My Account” tab, make sure that your Ad Type Preference is set to “Display text and image ads in all ad units.” Juhani |

Wow thats good to know I always use text ads. Going to start mixing it up on one of my sites to see if there is an increase. I always thought image ads yield a significantly less return than text ads.

That's cool - don't you love just making more money like that overnight? It's important to note that not everyones site might see an increase with image ads. You need to test it to see if it works for you! Lee |

Very nice of Google to let you know about that... I wonder how much money you are making with AdSense.. Just to know if that was a main reason for them to contact you. |

I had the same message this week, saying their system analyzed one of my sites and they advised me to use image ads as well. But I wonder if this is true. I excluded image ads because I believe text ads are better. Now they are telling me the opposite. If image ads are better or not may depend on what kind of image ads one gets. "I wonder how much money you are making with AdSense.. Just to know if that was a main reason for them to contact you." Yes, I think you get the message if you are making a certain amount of money with a given site. I had this message only for my best performing site. |

I didn't receive that. But Google Adsense team sent me a message saying that I put TOO LITTLE ADSENSE blocks on my website. I counted: 2 blocks of ads and 1 block of links. That's considered too little? It's nice that they want me to earn more money... |

I actually did make more money though, but from just 1 of the ad placements (I wasn't using that size or placement before). Lee | |

And why would google want publishers to use max number of ads? More impressions = more charges to advertisers? My experience is fewer ad blocks results in better rates. Test, test, test. kay |

A lot of this depends upon your website layout as well... many times an image ad will be easily over looked or just simply ignored. Where a text link will grab attention because of the relevant text.

Can't hurt to just toggle it for 1 month or 2 and see whether you notice a change. If it's a change for the worst just switch it back. We're trying text only ads right now and the results seem to be a bit lower. Then again we were never rolling in dough. I might change to image and text ads again once we do our site upgrade.

Google Adsense sent me a message saying they analyzed 352 pages of one of my sites. They suggested the Image Ads, I tested & CTR was way down for a week. I don't believe G. I know my site better than they do, I've been testing on/off for 2.5 years. I have a single Adsense Ad that gets about 90% of the clicks at the very top (header) of every page. I think they are trying to keep the Adwords buyers happy by sending out all those Adsense messages. |

I used to have Ads all over the page including the header. Over time I've weeded out all the low paying Adsense Ads. Again, that header Ad makes most of the money for my sites. Test... Test... |

Image ads generally will produce a higher CTR than Text Ads. This is one trick that is used by people advertising on the content network. The higher CTR won't always produce a higher eCPM and this is what has to be tested. The Google Adwords bidding system will place an image ad in the space instead of a series of text-ads if historically the CTR and the CPC gives a higher CPM than the multiple text-ads. What this means is that Google places the image there only if it should produce a higher CPM for them. This is based on data across the campaign for the advertiser on all sites so it is possible that your site won't produce the same results. The reason Google is saying use Image and Text ads is because they might have an advertiser in your niche that you are missing which produces higher results than the rest. Google always wants to put the best advertiser on your site. The best advertiser is the one that makes them the most money, and that means you. |

I think it really depends for each website you have. 1) How deep are the advertisers? I'm willing to bet the payout is higher when there are 25 advertisers bidding on keyword x, compared to just 3. 2) When there are more advertisers, the quality of the ads generally go up, which means more cash for you. 3) Now depending on your site, you may need 1, 2 or 3 ad blocks to maximize your clicks. 4) As far as image ads go, I think it really depends on how enticing the ad is. |

This is because there is always some work involved in the uploading of images and if the images are more relevant to the niche then the cost is bound to go up.
