Default Google algo change: a website can hold more search results

A must-read for SEOs and all those interested! A website can now hold more Google results for searches that include a particular domain, brand or company name. Here's the official scoop:

That actually sounds pretty ominous for internet marketers. For example, assuming I promote a specific Canon digital camera from Amazon, I could conceivably be pushed out of the SERPs by the Canon website when people search for "Canon model xyz" since such a search would theoretically indicate strong interest in the Canon brand.

Pro's and cons - but an interesting change nonetheless...

Thanks for sharing Philip

Yes it's a good change in algorithm of Google but what's the merit of this one I can't get yet.But how it's going to help users I would have to rethink about it.

I think it'll not give more results for every search we made.

Conclusion:

I can now totally dominate the first page of Google all from one domain

I no longer have to use multiple domains to dominate page 1. Rock on.

The merit? People might now think, Why just get #1 when I can get the whole page? XD

I hope they don't complain when people start trying to game this.

For sites whose domain name is also their main keyword, this might be pretty sweet.

My first reaction is that this will generally favor larger, more authoritative sites. Single page sites will suffer - they can't show pages that are not there.

I'm not so sure about that.

At least in the niches I am in, the majority of the page 1 search listings do not show any indented listings. That is, there is only 1 search result per domain.

In order for this change to make any difference to the smaller niche site, the authoritative site would need to qualify not just 2, but 3+ pages for page 1.

One word: forum. :P It doesn't have to be authority to be very big! If you have a forum though make sure you put some good articles into it to provide good content since forum content can be iffy on quality.

I could not agree more Tom.

I started seeing multiple indented listings for "clickbump" and "clickbump theme" a few weeks ago. I found that my post on "juggernaut seo" got indexed and ranked at the top of the search results a few minutes after i posted it.

Needless to say, I'm definitely liking the results of this algo change.
