Need free method to find forum/blog backlinks until have enough to buy something

I'm looking into purchasing scrapebox for these purposes once I have enough money saved up to do so but what can I do now to find forums/blogs manually to get my site up in the rankings until I have enough $$ to buy scrapebox?

i would manually search the web with google or yahoo for related forums / blogs.

It might take some work but is worth your time if u can find some good ones!
