Tips to rank higher in Google

Hi all,

I finally have my site all set up and finished (will add new content later), but wanted to see if there were any more tips for me to rank higher. Right now the site contain 60 long tail keyword. The search volume is not high on all of the terms (the max is probably 2,000 exact). I am having no trouble with simple backlinking between my sites getting ranked in the Top 3 positions in Google. But there are a few more of my posts that I would like to be higher so I can get a bit more traffic.

My niche surrounds sports and team apparel. An example could be "baltimore orioles jersey". Right now I only use backlinks methods, and need to add some internal links, but i'm wondering what else might be good to try?

I thought about article marketing, but i'm not sure writing an article surrounding a Baltimore Orioles Jersey is a good idea. I'm not sure how to write a relevant article on the subject? Would article comments still help? Social bookmarking?

The other issue is can I get into the top 5? If I take the example above (not my niche by the way), I notice that the Top 5 is MLB.com, sunfanshop.com, fansedge.com, and footballfanatics.com. All of these are actual establsihed store fronts. Do I even have a shot?

Make sure you set the site up so that it's clearly separated out to match the main keywords. A lot of people miss out on inbound links and they can really be helpful too. Article marketing is a good idea for this topic (and any where there isn't many exact match mentions in titles, URLs, and bodies) as you can build up relevance with your articles. Go ahead and get blog comment links on baltimore and sports blogs. Shouldn't be too difficult! Building up back links to deeper pages is always a good idea. You will rank for more long-tail keywords too if the links are distributed throughout the site.

Thanks Brad, right now my Sidebar has all of my inbound links. Is that sufficient or should I add a Related Posts section as well?

Remember one word, revisions, revisions, revisions. You never get it right on the first cut. Always go back and review your content for SEO improvements for the first several months at least.

or what the jersey means to you.
the history of the jersey and how is has or hasn't changed over the years.
compare jerseys from different eras. some teams change uniform styles quite often.some never have changed.

Going back to the original post I wrote, and all of the changes that happened with Google since then, is it still possible to reach the Top for the keywords "baltimore orioles jersey"?

This is the concept I don't understand. The top-site is Sjop.MLB.com which has numerous backlinks to the homepage but not so many to the specific pages. Yet beating this site is almost impossible and i'm not sure what factor is coming into play. Is it age, domain authority? I didn't consider domain authority as i've been able to beat Amazon products pages before.

Anyone have any ideas?

I can say that if you have great content and relevant to your business so you will rank higher. the more you update the more you rank higher.
Keep in mind please that SEO is not just doing that you should do lot of things which you can find that from search egines.

If you're writing articles for backlinks it doesn't have to be exactly about "Baltimore Orioles Jersey." Try jerseys, Baltimore Orioles, baseball, baseball gear, uniforms, etc. Closely related content is better, but even unrelated ones should help.

One idea sparks another and then another, then you soon find you've filled a page of writing, almost like having a conversation with yourself but writing it all down. Optimize the article for SEO and submit it to directories, get those links and watch your other posts rise.

You can focus on the 60 long tail keyword...see which one of them needs more backlinks so that you can focus more on them...since you have so many keywords, i suggest blog commenting, writing articles and you might try to post videos regarding your keywords too..

Follow these instructions to get top ranking in Google...

1. Your site should have a clear hierarchy. This means that headings should follow in order from h1 to h2 and so on.
2. Have a strong introductory paragraph on your site. This should not only explain what your site is about to new readers but also contain the keywords that you want to focus on.
3. All pages on your site should have text links to them, not just graphics. And it helps if those text links say something other than "click here".

Focus on getting more high quality backlinks. Article marketing is perfect for this. Try to write some quality articles and submit them to ezine and other article directories. But remember to use DIFFERENT anchors, NOT the same one!
