Deciding to completely switch keywords: how well does it work?

So, I want to COMPLETELY switch up my keywords on a page I'm doing. Luckily the page is mainly for my testing purposes, so regardless of the answers here I'm switching keywords to do some testing on my own.

I'm curious though if anybody else has done this and to maybe get an idea of what to expect?

Will it start with the new crawl/index or does previously targeting certain words have an effect?

I don't anticipate any issues, just curious.
