Hi everyone, I have had this idea for awhile now and thought I would run it by any PPC experts that may have tried this: What if you created banner ads for adsense or any other PPC like facebook, that were designed to get people to either TXT message or CALL but NOT click? Of course some would still click and that would lead to a landing page or whatever, but the whole banner would say TXT or CALL etc? Would you get people responding by texting or calling? Would that mean you would basically be getting free advertising? Or at least pay for a lot less clicks but still get a high response? Now what if the txt message or phone number was for an affiliate program or something like that? You would be getting commissions etc.. Just want to know what everyone thinks about that, has anyone tried it, and does anyone know any good affiliate programs that have TXT MSG and CALL support for lead generation? |

I understand your thinking and it could easily work. But one would think that any ad network worth its salt would not allow such ads to get past their moderation.

And I think people are also relatively skeptical about calling or texting a random number based off a 1 liner in an ad, they usually want a bit more information before talking to someone on the phone (or even hearing a recording)

Yes, you'd get free exposure. But you're forgetting one thing. If you do anything in your ad that would drop your quality score (which is basically your click rate, especially on the CN), you lose ground to competitors. That means you have to bid higher to maintain your position. That would be good if absolutely nobody would click the ad, you could increase your bid indefinitely, in theory. But as you say yourself, that wouldn't be the case, some people would click. Also, echoing Rock Solid, why would people text based on the little information of an ad? They wouldn't. If it looks the least bit interesting to them, they'll click to find out more. That's what advertising, in any form, TV, radio, PPC is all about: inform people you have a product, entice them to come to your store (in this case, click) then give them more information to close the sale. |

Wow, interesting answers. Thanks for the input! I guess this would not be a good idea especially considering that the CTR is important regarding the price.
