Okay how are people getting catch pages or landing pages to the top spot on google, is that purely backlinking?

There are basically two main factor quality backlink and quality content that need to be getting top in Google. There are also many other factor like domain age, keyword in title, keyword in page, keyword in link, site structure etc...

Yep. That's pretty much backed up by powerful backlinks - High PR sites/ web 2.0 sites. The content is important too. |

Those landing pages are probably highly optimized around 1 or 2 keywords and supported by quality backlinking.

you are right back links is the best way to cache your page because greater the page rank more possibilities to cache your page.

You need to have solid content on your website for it to do well in search engines. Building backlinks helps too. If you just have a squeeze page with an opt in form you will need to have lots of content on the rest of your site too.
