Default PPC - Two Accounts, One Website - Problems?

Hi Warriors,

An offline question here... I have a client that wants me to take over his PPC account but wants to have me start a new account while he eases off the existing one...

Would Goggle have any problems with that (two account/two separate payment sources) ? ...i've been doing his seo and he loves it, he's got a few businesses and has been able to eliminate one of his PPC accounts all together after a few months of my SEO but he wants to keep this other account and have me run it... I guess it's time for me to become a PPC expert now (with the help of the Warrior forum )

Any input is welcome...

Thanks

Yes, Google won't take kindly to having two separate Adwords accounts (from the same company) promoting the same site. If you can set the destination URL on your new campaign to a different domain and different billing you might be alright. I would just take his account over though and don't worry with a new one. Unless you export his account using Adwords Editor (a .AEA file I believe) you will have to re-start with no history or keywords. History is used in quality score's too. So if it is good history that may be worth saving =)

It is not a problem in terms of getting in trouble with Google.

It is a problem in the sense that you are now essentially competing with yourself therefore driving up the price per click because you have 2 sites going after the same people.

Brad is correct

One at a time please

If you are using a Google account the following rules are applicable – “In order to preserve the quality and diversity of ads running on Google, individuals advertising for themselves or for their own businesses may only have a single AdWords account unless explicitly advised otherwise by Google. “

“This means that we don't allow advertisers or affiliates to have any of the following: Ads across multiple accounts for the same or similar businesses, Ads across multiple accounts triggered by the same or similar keywords”

“Only client managers (such as third parties or search engine marketers) who use a My Client Center can have multiple AdWords accounts. All associated accounts must be linked to the manager's MCC account.”

• - just chillin.

Hi Brad,

Thanks for the response... I think taking it over is probably the way to proceed, his history isn't the best so some repair well be in order. It's funny you mentioned the Adwords Editor, just yesterday I read I big piece on how it's a very under used tool, that could really make things easier (like I said ppc is new to me).

Anyway I’m grateful that you would respond to this thread… By the way your free video series is fantastic, lots of great info you’d pay for anywhere else…

Thanks again
Nick

Great info thanks...

So what if I buy another domain and forward it to the existing site ...t's also a case where he'll be stopping the account within a few weeks (tops),
So maybe it wouldn't be picked up that quick?

Also, how involved is the MCC account to set up?

Any other work-around you would consider...

Nick

Brad is right that you should just take over the account and do the rest that he says. Google is very very particular about two accounts. Ask those who've got banned and have had to get a new reincarnation to get back on to adwords. Cheers

I can tell you first hand that if you are big enough, Google lets you do this. Had a client with one affiliate. The affiliate had two adwords accounts and would run two ads against my client's one. The client had even complained to Google about it but nothing had been done.

This affiliate spent millions per month with Google, so it's one set of rules for some and another for the rest of us.

Did manage to get one of the accounts shut down and the affiliate was not too happy!
