I think spam results in websites transitioning to nofollow or just giving up and shutting down their websites. Not worth it, in my opinion. Plus I wouldn't want someone to know about my business because I was a spammer.

Sites allow you to create profiles. They do not say you have to participate or do anything else, then they get upset, along with other people when people put a link on the profile page they were supplied with. The people who have it wronf are those who think that there is some sort of code of conduct for sites that allow profile creation, when most of the time there is not. |

I doubt link spamming is the only method those ones are using. Once they get penalized for that, then let them see where they rank

| Listen to Paul, soon G is going to do something like devalue those links which is a shame as there are some people who do genuinely go to niche specific forums to participate and add links.

| Here we go again. They won't get penalized for the incoming links. There should be an auto-ban feature anytime anyone posts such nonsense around here, particularly for any member who says that and also has links to "SEO" in his or her sig ;-)

But how long do the rankings last?

| Joseph Tosh War Room Member | Yes, but if done correctly. If you build like 1000 links to a single page in 2 days, you might be #1 or #2 for a dew days, and then just vanish forever. But, if the same thing is done smartly, then it can be very powerful. Karan |

You guys go after the profile link, which is ok. The thing is, If you dig a bit deeper in most forums you can get a stronger backlink for free. I'm backlinking high PR forums with: 1) I control the <h1> tag 100% (keyword) 2) I can post unlimited anchor-text backlinks in a single post 3) My entire page is themed for my specific keyword 4) Google crawls the page with ease, G cache is proof 5) It's not BH, the forums are setup for each member to do this, only most folks don't have a clue it exist. 6) The forum page won't get deleted by anyone NOTE: This isn't Sig or profile backlinks. I know it sucks to post this without showing how. I also know it will have a chance to mess up my own backlinks If I post on an open IM forum, so all I can say is dig deeper in just about any forum. ![]() [updated below] |

Spammy backlinking goes on in all niches and will likely continue to happen... there is only so much Google can control and there will always be ways to game the engines. If they could manually review every site then it may be different, but the algorithm isn't nearly as sophisticated as one might think.

I have quite a bit of experience with forums and dealing with spam. Here is some advice I have for anyone planning on spamming. Yes you can get a boost by spamming your links randomly. But if you do it on a large scale and don't do it by hand / post different content in each place *ie do it the right way*, it will most likely catch up to you. It is fairly easy for webmasters to find and discover spam on their sites. Eventually you may discover that your links have been removed and you have been blocked from a lot of these sites. Search engines are smart and might one day deal with these massive spammers, as they should. I mean how hard would it be for them to detect 10,000 links on various forums that all say something like "Hi, I hope that I posted this in the right forum, if not I am sorry but please move it to the proper spot. Can you please review my website blahblahblahDOTcom" Anyway I hope that some of you understand what I am trying to say, spamming can get you ahead of the game for the short term but don't expect the links to be stable and it can come haunt you in the future. Pure spam is really only advisable for black hat projects and throw away domains in my opinion. |

| lols , that's a good catch Karan . Profile link building works and its working smoothly. There's a lot of people saying around that google will penalize this links or the rankings based on profile links will get vanished soon, I have a question for them - "On basis of which information they are saying this so strongly ??" Has Big G made any Press Conference that "We are going to penalize all Forum Profile Links" ???? If you are smart just be a little bit careful when you are creating profile links , bring some variations , target some good forums on your special niche and it will work for you smoothly . And to add with this , blog commenting still works if you know how to do it. And to me spamming is something which is annoying for others . So what ever I do I keep it in my mind that I should not became a reason of annoyance for others. Nazbir |

| Ok, I'll tell you what it is. ![]() I hope I don't start something spammy, lol... It does deal with forum blogs, but not in the usual way. Your not posting blog pages to your forum blog, well you are but your not (If that makes any sense). Most Vbulletin forums include an option for members to have a simple forum/blog. One of the options on most of the Vbulletin forum/blogs is to post what they call "Blog Custom Pages". Now on most Vbulletin forums I post backlinks on, they include this as a hidden blog page, unless you dig deep, or know the direct url. Again, most of the forum/blogs I post on include 3 things, unlimited anchor-text, title-tag, <h1> tag. This is awesome because I can create a 100% relevant webpage in seconds, that has one-way dofollow anchor-text backlinks pointing back to my sites. You can't do this with the average forum member profile. I'm talking an entire page of content, anchor-text that is dofollow. I only deal with Vbulletin forums, most are setup very similar so it's easy to create new accounts & be posting ASAP! Here is how you find the forum/blog "Blog Custom Pages" ************************************************** *** 1) Go to the main forum/blog home-page that shows all the recent blog post from other members. 2) Go to "Blog Control Panel" most times in the sidebar. 3) Go to "Blog Custom Pages" most times in the sidebar. 4) click the "Add Custom Page" button 5) Create your webpage with keyword title, anchor-text etc... 6) Don't forget to click the "Save" button 7) Copy the forum/blog "Custom Page" url from your browser 8) find your best high traffic, high PR dofollow site that you use for backlinks, & create a new backlink that only points back to your forum/blog "Custom Page" ************************************************** *** When I post backlinks to my forum/blog custom pages (from the high PR site) I use the punctuation backlink trick, so you don't have everybody & their brother copying your every move (competition, etc...) Now, for each forum member they are allowed a max of 5 "Custom Pages", I use a single custom forum/blog page with my backlinks for an entire site that I own. So with one forum member profile I can supply backlinks to 5 of my own websites. Each page is 100% themed to the keyword/website that I own. From this long comment it looks like a lot of steps, but it's not anymore work/time than creating a single non-anchor-text backlink on a profile page. I can create an entire page of relevant content have it live & backlinked from a high PR site in less than 5min. My forum/blog custom pages are all cached by Google. That's the reason I backlink my backlinks forum pages, so G can find the forum custom pages fast. Most times I'm getting the forum custom page cached by G in less than 24 hours. |

That's a great idea and something I'm going to add to my arsenal. I've always put a paragraph in my profiles just to add some in content to my links but this takes that to another level. I've got like 20 or 30 articles at Ezine that I could use for this as well. Thanks for the tip dude. | |

| Thanks for this tip! I checked 5 random vB forums I use for backlinks, and none seems to have this blog option. I did not see it in UserCP. Either it is well hidden, or simply rare option. I am also wondering where you source the content. Is it just a paragraph from your website / article / blogpost? Cheers! Janis |

| Maybe in terms of actual web pages looked at by reviewers, but certainly not in terms of pages indexed. In any event, they seem pre-occupied with other things, like creating the joke that is called Google Instant.

| As much spam, and relevance as they can spot in a 30 second quality review. I'm not very certain how much they actually review. From what I've read and heard, it's a look and feel type thing. Meaning if your website looks spammy or doesn't meet a specified set of standards at first glance then it's gone. If it does meet those specs, it moves on.

Of course it does work, although Google is trying its best to clamp down. Interview with a link spammer ? The Register Sam's code gets hundreds of open proxies to obediently spam blogs and other sites with the messages he wants posted. They usually target comments to old posts, so they won't show up to people reading the latest ones, though search engine spiders will spot them and index them. And here's the surprising thing: link spamming is not outsourced. These people do it on their own behalf. (Does this mean it's an immature business? Reg readers please advise.) Here's why. When Sam spams tons of blogs and sites with links to his sites - which are affiliates of bigger PPC sites - people see the links and, seeking some porn, pills or casino action, click through to his site, and from there to the parent site, which pays Sam for each person landing there. The PPC sites can see revenues of £100,000 to £200,000 per month, says Sam. He gets a slice of that - and he wants it to stay that way. |
