This has got me stumped. A few months ago I set up a small website for my father and linked to it from one of my personal blogs (a PR5). That's all it got, plus one round of social bookmarking that brought in another 9 or 10 links. Within a month I spotted it had a PR of 3, and that PR has not changed. The thing that is really bugging me is another site I've sweated over has over a thousand backlinks, with many good quality links from high PR sites in the same niche. It was launched at the same time as my father's site and is ranking in the top 3 on G's first page. But why can't I increase that PR, which is stuck at 0? I know that PR is not the be all and end all, but the niche I'm in has some tough competition, and I was hoping a little PR love could swing it for this site... |

There hasn't been a major PR update since April of this year. What's probably happened is that your small website's PR got changed (increased) in a minor PR update (there seems to have been a couple of these since April), but your other website - like most websites - haven't seen a PR update yet.

I think you should not focus on the page rank ..if possible on focus on traffic and if still you wanna increase your page ranks then try to get few more backlinks having quality links. And for your kind info google update pageranks after 3 months so continue your hard work and wait for 3 months for updation ..this time may be in first week of October.

Thanks for the answers! But would one decent backlink (PR5) and a smattering of bookmarking be enough to ramp a small site up to PR3? Doesn't seem right to me...? |

) and a PR5 backlink would be pretty powerful. So I'm not 100% sure, but I wouldn't be surprised.

It happens at times. Check if your site is listed on some good page ranked websites. That might have helped you.

depends on the niche and the quality of the links, also is it a profitable niche... what CPC spend is occurring? Above all that, just keep focusing on quality niche targets as 10 of those is better than a 100 spammy ones just for back links... Try a selection of high PR .edu, .org, and .com sites (maybe some pro blogs not auto blogs)...

All the sites which are having PR more than 3 is considered as powerful. There is some kind of algorithm, which states that if you are able to get unique quality backlink from PR5 site you can have PR3. If PR6 then PR4, if pr7 then PR5 like that.... If you increase the number of backlinks your PR also get increased. Like if you are able to get 9 PR4 backlinks you can have PR5. The number i have used are not accurate but for 1 backlink if your site is PR5 then automatically other site will have PR3. Also, only PR is not important. You must have good quality unique backlinks. There are certain points that you need to consider while building the backlink. 1) Try to get the backlinks from the page(not the main domain name, but the actaul web address of the page), which are having at least PR0. If you are get backlinks from some page which is having gray PR bar, check the domain PR, which should be at least PR0. 2) Make your anchor text with variety of keywords. It should look natural to Google. 3) Do not get involve with any linkfarming sites. 4) Get backlinks from the sites all having different ip addresses 5) Get both kind of backlinks like "do follow" and "nofollow". It will look natural to Google. 6) If your domain name is new, first month only get backlinks to 250, second month only 250, third month 500, then you can use any kind of softwares to have number of backlinks. (But do not spam please. That will spoil your backlink profile) 7) Keep record of the url of all your backlinks. Use Backlink Index Express to index your backlinks in three major search engine. You will see instant result for your targeted keywords. 8) Build backlinks to inner pages also. Deep linking will build much more authorization to Home page. (i.e. wikipedia.org) Here is my one of the favorite method which helps me a lot in the beginning. 1) Make a list of 3 keywords for the page I want to rank for. 2) Go to Google.com and make a list of the top 10 websites which are ranking for 3 keywords. (I use market samurai, which also get other information for all the top 10 websites like domain age, numebr of pages indexed, number of backlinks to domain, number of backlinks to the page and other factors. This can be done manually too. But market samurai saves time. Check the training in dojo page in marketsamurai[dot]com 3) After having the list of the website. I use SEO Elite for getting a list of the backlinks for the page and domain. Using its export feature you can have a list of all the websites ready to do backlinking. 4) Sort the list with high pr to low pr. and try to get as many backlinks as you can from the list. If you do not able to get backlinks from some sites. Do not panic. There is always more opportunity. 5) After having the list of 100 backlinks I use backlink index express to get it indexed in search engines. 6) Repeat the process again for next website or page. I hope this will help for all the beginners for getting the High PR for new site. I was able to get PR4 for new site number of times.

It's very possible, my first website was started in march and by april somehow had gotten PR3. Pr3 seems quite easy to obtain based on that. My other 2 week old websites had gotten PR2 as well. I just wish I saw another Pr update so I could see what they are at now that they actually get a lot of traffic and 1k+ backlinks
