Keywords play an important part in the Search engine results. They are a crucial factor when looking for sites on the search engines. The results displayed by search engines are based on the keyword. But using keywords in your meta tags will not help you get on the high SERPs. Those keywords must be used appropriately in the content. The content should contain relevant and important keywords if the site is to attain better PR and SERP positioning. The other factors that affect SERPs are link popularity, outbound links etc.
