Obviously, the new data is wrong. Check those result: Old data: ![]() New data: ![]() In both cases, exact results for local search per month. I cant believe that in Netherlands, only 260 people will look for apartments in Amsterdam per month ( population 700k + ). The drop from 246k to 260 is just crazy and unbelievable. The new google keyword tool doesn't make sense at all. |

@ ethanpol - No tool provide a correct or an exact data. All of them provide just an estimate. It's always advisable to use a combination of tools and use an average of all. |

That is one hell of a number jump. But I have to say the last few weeks Google exact counts vs Estimated ctr for 1st position has been right on time. To me the new Google tool is more accurate than it has ever been. Don't forget about Google's new instant feature. This feature auto fills search's based on what your typing, IMO instant makes internet advertising a more commercial process leaving the advantage to people that actually have the money to spend on the keywords. And making it so much harder for us nubz. Have you tried "apartments for rent in amsterdam" or "rentals in amsterdam"? I think if someone was looking for a rental with Google instant on they would most likely search these keywords instead of "apartments amsterdam" |

There is going to be more searches than that on mobile alone! Checking out the keyword in insights and it shows it is consistently popular and apartments in amsterdam is the most popular! |

apartments = appartementen homes = woningen It's only an example. I have researched like 50 keywords, and they all dropped very heavily. Sometimes like 90-95% of the old traffic was gone.

There is no other source for Google searches but Google. All of the tools pull from the same data. Some pull from other search sites but since google is the most popular search engine they are a better gauge.

The new search results (and the old ones too for that matter) were never accurate but the new tool is way off on the low side. I'm basing this on some of my sites that have the top positions in the serps and which uniformly receive as many searches (exact) in 3-4 days as Google says they should in a month--if I got 100% of the clicks. The broad results are closer but still off by a factor of 2 it seems. The sites in question are 3 each in #1, 2, and 3 positions with an estimated 56%, 13% & 9% of the clicks/impressions respectively per Google's SERP click distribution chart. |

100% agree...the new tool sucks a lot! Plus...I find it kinda irritating with the captcha thing before you can actually use the tool... I mean, the old one had a captcha...but it just felt smoother you know... |

Hey Guys, This is why the results are so low now: "In addition to these improvements, we’ve also changed how we calculate Global Monthly Searches and Local Monthly Searches. Statistics in these columns are now based on Google.com search traffic only. Previously, they also included traffic from search partners. We've updated these statistics based on advertiser feedback, and hope you find them more helpful for keyword selection." It sucks, looks we'll just have to manage. |

I am sticking with my theory, but I live in the US. The tool is far more accurate now than it has ever been. Based on estimated ctr for first place I have the statistics to prove it Quote:

Looking at it now more closely...the new tool does give us a lot more data to play with like ad share/search share. And many more filters. But I must say I'm surprised at some of the search volume numbers...I mean one term I had kept in mind for a possible project just decreased from over 1M/month to just 250,000/month. Kinda weird. |

Also what I mean is more accurate in the sense that the searches are "supposedly" what is being searched for only through Google.com. But that really doesn't give you an entirely accurate estimate of how many searches there are a month for that particular keyword. Google has lots of search partners and if you take a look at any of your search results data you will see people are coming from all over, like aol.com to name one. So it will be interesting to see how this is going to affect what keywords people go after. Anyhow it ain't gonna change so looks like we all just have to deal with it. I don't use Google Keyword tool for my in depth research but it is nice if I just want to check some numbers really fast. Also works well when showing my clients search volume for their keywords. Only most of them have no clue you really need to view the exact match results to get a good estimate of the search volume. Kyle New Google Keyword Tool Sucks! Bring The Old One Back.

As far as I'm concerned Google will always have the best data to go off of. Most keyword tools get their data from Google anyway. Why? They are the largest search engine with most of the market share...sooo whatyagonnado?

[QUOTE=seba7619;2645210]"In addition to these improvements, we’ve also changed how we calculate Global Monthly Searches and Local Monthly Searches. Statistics in these columns are now based on Google.com search traffic only. Previously, they also included traffic from search partners. We've updated these statistics based on advertiser feedback, and hope you find them more helpful for keyword selection."[QUOTE] This makes perfect sense. I build a lot of websites and many times (20%) I'll get a website to the top of page one of Google and despite the fact the Google keyword tool had originally told me the keyword gets 5000 searches per month using Exact Match, the website gets no traffic!! So I went and checked these keywords in the Google Keyword Tool again today, and sure enough, previously (couple months ago) Google keyword tool said the keyword gets 5000 searches per month (exact match). Now, it says it gets 880 searches per month (exact match). So based on going through about 50 of my sites I can tell you that the New Google keyword tool data is correct. The old data was wrong. Thanks Google for wasting so much of my time with your B.S. keyword tool! I've probably built about 30 websites based on faulty keyword research that get no traffic. |

Funny, I just posted on this exact topic, then I saw this thread. Great, Google's previous statistics were BS, and from the looks of the comments, so are their new ones. Yup, I too have built a mountain of content based on their flawed data. I guess it's a rough indicator but shouldn't be taken too literally.

I'm sure we will be going to guess on the keywords soon as Google adwords tool is giving inaccurate results. I experienced a similar issue with a keyword having about 40,000 exact local volume traffic per month and when bidding on the keyword in my adwords account the traffic estimator tool said "Not enough traffic" I also noticed very different results in the adwords tool for the same keyword in the same day.Personally I'm going to run to Yahoo, MSN, Facebook and MySpace. |

Well i do believe that the new gakt is more accurate. Like some others, i have sites that ranked top 3 in google for a phrase that supposedly gets 3k searches per month (old version) but i'm getting hardly that traffic. New tool gives me approximately 1k a month and that is more of what i'm experiencing with my sites. It's an improvement if u asked me.

Looks like they have finally really taken it away. After they had introduced the new tool, the old one used to be here: https://adwords.google.com/select/Ke...rceLegacy=true I tried now, but it did not work - it just redirected me to the new one. |

market samurai won't help any more at estimating this. Really at the end of the day, take all this as an estimate of how much traffic is available. You should be evaluating a bunch of other factors first when evaluating a niche. If you really need to know, i recommend writing a horrible ad for the product in adwords that will get 0 clicks, but then bid high so it at least gets displayed on page 1 for a day. take that number and multiply by 30. |

You can always use multiple tools and average the results. I do this because I never trust any one source. Also, it's better to use these as either ranges or relative traffic (one term has more than another).
