I'm seeing this phenomena of Google search results that are different on my computer than others. For example, I did some backlinking work and the next day searched for the particular keyword I was working on, and found my site on the first page of google results. Imagine my excitement. Only to find that on any other computer, it's not indexed that high at all. So I tried the SEORank plugin and it didn't even find my site. This isn't the first time I've seen this happen. When I worked on a client's website and visited her URL often, if I then searched for her main keyword, she'd come up in 1st position on the 1st page of Google results. But if she searched it from her home computer, she was farther down the page. Can anyone please explain what is happening here? I need to get pure search results and don't know what to do. |

Usually when you are logged into your gmail, it can record what you are looking for. Hence when you are searching for a particular result, it would appear more at the top. But the truth is, it isn't really so. You may want to use a proxy before you check your results or use a seorank checker or other similar tools. |

Yeah, Google records your web history when logged into a Google account. Kind of annoying. I'm sure there is a way to turn it off.

A quick search on Google would probably have answered your question. Google personalizes the searches to what it thinks are your preferences. Personalized Search orders your search results based on what you've searched for in the past. If you're in the states you can use scroogle |

Finally, it is the number of pages Google finds for a particular keyword and the internet is a newer phenomenon than JFK so there are fewer pages about him. Music is more popular on the net than soccer in general and Gaga is on other high volume sites like Twitter and Facebook and uses Youtube too.

Thanks for the help, I just tested it by logging out of my gmail account, and this information is right. The search results were totally different. If anyone knows how to turn this off, please post it here for all. Boo on the spammers. |

| How to Disable Personalized Search: If you're not logged in... 1. Search for something from Google's Home Page 2. Click on the 'Web History' link (top right) 3. Click 'Disable customizations based on search activity' Done. Note: The settings are stored in a cookie so everytime you delete your cookies you must repeat this process. |

Always use an anonymous proxy like pagewash or hidemyass or something when checking your rankings.

Thanks to all, especially Netmatrix - that process worked. I tried using SEOPageRank, the Firefox plugin, but it's not accurate. I can surf my keyword and find it in the 12th position, but the plugin gives it no ranking. So, does anyone have a recommendation for an accurate page rank tool? |
