I am getting several VOIP lines for several websites in different niches (all local) and redirecting them to one phone. I read something that Google somehow knows VOIP numbers and gives them less weight as opposed to regular business lines. Do you know if this is true? This factor is important since the niches are local, and 10 box is very important. Something that verifies that Google somehow knows of VOIP numbers is this page from a US virtual number provider: iNumbr - Virtual Numbers - Manage Your Privacy - craigslist It states: The numbers we provision are VOIP numbers, they work like normal phone numbers, but they are not in Craigslist’s select database of pre-authorized phone numbers. As a result you can and should register your Craigslist account using your iNumbr, but expect that the initial verification call will not ring through. My thinking is if Cragslist is smart enough to know its a VOIP, Google is too. What are your thoughts? Have you used virtual phone numbers in local SEO with success? |

This is the first time I've heard anything like this. I've been using VoIP from Onesuite.com for the past 3 or 4 years. I also go to one forum and another and a good percentage of those forums are about computers, internet and VoIP. No one brought up anything about Google knows (your phone number) if its VoIP or not. I think a DID can be a VoIP or a regular landline. Somebody just correct me if I'm wrong. |

We use wifi voip phones from yippz.com and have voip 800 and voip US/CAN/UK numbers all over our sites. Google could care less about the number, plus they can't tell if it's voip or not. Many of the voip numbers that began reg'd to L3 have been ported to cell or landland and some landline and cell numbers have been ported to voip, so there is absolutely no way that Google or anyone else could tell if the number is now or ever was a voip number. Absolutely nothing to concern yourself with. Concentrate on your SEO instead. |
