It's best to start with the basics and take it straight from the horses mouth. This should be every seo's first read...
Nice share...get the basics down, then move on with some more advanced seo strategies.

It's a very basic thing, but I wish Google would publicise the fact its been around for years, then people would read it and not be so completely lost when it comes to the basics.

Thanks a lot for this! There is an interesting section on SEO for mobile sites. I haven't done any mobile sites yet, but if I ever do, I would know where to look for the mobile SEO facts.

Actually this is a new version that just came out on September 29th (if I remember correctly). They actually have a little cartoonish Googlebot on there. The last edition was from 2008. This edition is brand new.

Yes, this version is new. I have the "old" one and doing a quick skim on this, it looks like they added a bit of new content to it (along with the cartoon googlebot). On just about every page at the bottom there is a "glossary" section that explains things like "head tags" or "301 redirect", or there are some links to more about the subject or helpful tools.

Very good place to start if one knows nothing about SEO, or just would like a refresher straight from the big G's mouth.
