Hi Warriors, I am a little perplexed, but as you know buying links is against Googles guidelines as you know (but if you place a no follow tag in there then that is ok). They say they will penalize websites if anyone partakes in this, which I believe has happened to 2 of my websites. So..... Then, how come Google does not penalize major text link broker companies (who openly advertise to buy text links) such as: Buy Links That Work! - TextLinkBrokers.com - Link Building Company SEO Firm : Directory Submission Link Building Service with Article submission but there are many more. For example, if you type in text link brokers or buy links in google, then textlinkbrokers.com come up and they say right there "Buy text links that work"....They even got a google page rank of 6... Everyone knows that they make tons of money buying links for their clients for the sake of boosting the ranking in Google. Your feedback is greatly appreciated as I am trying to understand why? Thanks a million, Chloe |

My guess is that they don't penalize them in order to avoid anti-trust charges since they dominate web search and are already using that advantage to dominate online advertising. If you were the owner of one of those companies and Google did something like deindexing your site, wouldn't you call a high profile attorney like David Boies and sell them on the idea of going after one of the deepest pockets in the world?

Google dropped the hammer on Text Link Ads and all others a few years back for this reason... And as you will see, there still are no sponsored results to this day. SEO is a different story and if google intentionally messes with that in their favor, the entire idea of what google does crumbles. |

My guess is, Google doesn't know about the exact links, it would have to buy and place a link with the sellers to know the pages. And they may know some of them. Or maybe Google just lessens their value as opposed to a all-out ban of the site. We'll never know. | |

Google doesn't penalize brokers because the brokers have not done anything wrong. They are not buying links. They are simply hooking sites that want to sell links up with sites that want to buy links. It's those sites who are selling and buying links that are violating the Google Webmaster Guidelines. It is illegal to hack a satellite TV box. I have a buddy who used to sell a microchip that could easily be programmed to hack a satellite TV box. He sold them for years. It wasn't illegal to sell them. It was illegal to use them to had the satellite TV boxes and steal their signals for the premium channels for free. It was the people who bought them and then used them to hack the satellite boxes that broke the law. It's not illegal to sell guns. It's illegal for people to use them to kill others. The gun store owner is not the one breaking the law. It's the people using the guns to kill who are breaking the law. Similar principles apply. BTW: I would never use a link broker with whom you can register online, login, and look at their inventory online... If you can do that, so can Google. If you're going to buy links (and I'm not advocating it) at least be smart enough to deal with brokers that operate totally off line via emails/spreadsheets to show you their inventory. Or deal directly with the web site owner. |
