Automation tools...a lot of these kinds of backlinks are very spammy in nature like auto blog commenting, but having higher quality links can overcome 1000 low quality links. Guest blog posting on authority niche sites, article marketing, high pr contextual backlinking, and PR's are a great way to build links. Just don't get caught too much in the numbers because a lot of times, you can look at site explorer and it says hey have like 15k backlinks, but in many cases I have found, they are just sitewide links like blogrolls and such. That is why it is essential to have more powerful link analysis tools rather than just peeking at site explorer.

But, to answer your question, yes you can compete, and nowadays if you want links in mass, you can find services that are very competitive since the tools are cheaper and accessible to a lot of people now. BUt do try to focus on gathering up more quality, powerful links first.

We can get more link through SEO which indicate such as Link wheel , directory , Article submission. As per mine view , We have to no need for lots of money for it. Now the days, All the people have still getting step for the SEO. I hope that We will clear our doubt that We need more money for get more backlinks.

Many SEO do the same things that we do in everyday living, to compete them is to find their source of quality baclinks i think there's a tool for it to find out.

Best way I have found is with backlinks from forums, I have over 2000 from one forum alone because I'm very involved at that forum.

It takes time or it takes money, sometimes both.

They're usually not doing it by manually building one link at a time.

They could be outsourcing or automating standard link building methods - articles, profile links, bookmarking, press releases, software, web 2.0 properties, free templates, widgets, and other link bait. These can be replicated, of course, given enough resources.

Some people build their own network of domains that they use for backlinks. This can be relatively expensive with the cost of domains and hosting.

They could also have a built-in 'network' if you will. For example, members websites all linking to an association website. This one is harder to match since the sites providing the links are generally privately owned.

I think you should just focus on your day to day SEO.. Do the best you can to increase your SEO knowledge and build high quality links everyday, instead of worrying too much about your competition.. If you are good enough, you will see your rankings improve and maybe one day beat the current nr. 1 website.. SEO is not a sprint - it is a Marathon..

Some websites buy sitewide links on some other sites, and if so a website has a form with hundreds if not thousands of pages that website will end up with thousands of backlinks

It's not very useful to google though, as one link has the same value as a few hundred from the same website

Through a good off page SEO process you can build back links. Perform different SEO activities like directory submissions, article submissions, blog posting, forum posting, blog commenting, guest blogging etc.

most of those links would be from spamming technique and they invest hundreds or even thousands dollars for that site. it is imposible to get those thousands link in just a year or two.
