I also wanted to jump in and note that I am also beginning to look for guest bloggers at my blog - MoneyWithArticles.com | A Journal of My Quest to Quit My Day Job. Users simply can register as a subscriber and contact me directly concerning guest posts. I will change their user role and they will have the ability to add a post. Once it's read through for quality control, their post will be live on my blog. Good opportunity for anyone looking to guest post somewhere smaller first, where their posts have a better chance at being posted.

with a series called 'Expert Briefs' (I was on one recently)

Benefits of Business Marketing

#3 - I've had guest posts on big blogs like Darren Rowse's
Problogger. And while it's nice for the ego, I'm sure many who
read this are drooling at the thought of getting one guest post
up and drowning in glory and traffic.

Well, it doesn't quite happen that way. Yes, you get exposure to
THOUSANDS of readers - but that alone rarely translates into any
lasting benefit. A backlink, maybe. Some clicks to your link,
sure. But often, that's it!

Think about it. A blog with many guest bloggers has GREAT content,
saves the blogger some effort, BUT sports a shifting galaxy of
author names. Take Brian Clark's "Copyblogger" for instance. The
content is always top notch - but I barely recall a few guest
writers by name, or check them out, or buy from them.

So what's one to do?

When everyone zigs, you zag!

You try and get on blogs like Kim's where guest bloggers are RARE
... and therefore more often NOTICED. It's hard, yes. Try.

You get a regular publishing gig, as a 'guest columnist' - like my
friend Gail Goodwin has at the Huffington Post.

That way, you get to STAY in front of that blog's audience, and
win mind-share.

Just some thoughts. Chris Garrett has a COURSE on guest blogging
which is loaded with more advice. But no matter what way you do
it, guest blogging works - it's just not the magic bullet "quick
and easy road to riches" that's tempting to imagine it to be!

Thanks for the list.

You can also use this little tool that combines some common search queries that bring up guest post opportunities such as “write for us” with the keyword of your choice. All you have to do is plug in the keyword and let it do its thing.

blogs have established readership, and a lot of loyal readers get back there to seek updates and new articles. Article directories are good too but people don't often visit them intentionally (except if it appears in Search Results), unless perhaps....article marketers looking for something to rewrite.
