I just got my website up and to my surprise I was already on page 3 with no back links! The problem: my domain is mycitypersonaltrainer.com(which would be perfect without google instant. Now when you type in my city personal trainer it suggests my city personaltrainers(plural) shows up and I am not even on the map for that one! Any suggestions? This can't be good! |

I wasnt't getting any traffic I just put the website up. But it still is on page 3. But just by adding the s on it and making it plural I don't show up anywhere! Can I beat this if I have enough links coming in?

Now, to rank for the plural, your backlinks need to have the plural form in a good and significant amount. Additionally, ensure that your on-page optimization works well for plural too. Don't drop the single - not everyone would always use the pllural - there will be poeple using singular too.

Thanks but it's kind of hard to put it in plural on my website to make it sound good! If I backlink using plural should that be enough?

You have to optimized for that keyword as well. Used it in your anchor text and if you can add that to your content much better. If your keyword is not that competitive I think it will be enough to rank on the first page of google. But be sure to get only quality links for that keyword.

In some cases, you Don't want the plural. Unless, you are a comparison shopping site. In some keywords, when you add the plural ending, dectates whether it is a buying word or a word still in the research phase. You want the buying word. In your case the singular keyword phrase is closer to the decisive action. Personally...I would stick with and build on the buying keyword phrases and not worry about dominating Google 1st page for ppl that are still in research mode. They are much harder to convert. Eventually, with some time authority on your site, you will capture some of the plural keyword phrases anyway. |

One more thing.... Try searching for your site as personal trainer your city, rather than the way your doing it. The reason is to catch as many exact matches as possible. People will type into a search bar what they are looking for first. The city is an after thought. I suspect they add it afterwords to narrow down the results. anyway... People that are outside of the area wanting information in a certain area are the ones that put the city in first when they search. Actually the searcher assumes that it is known where they are if they are searching for something in the same city...only to find out that the results are much wider than expected. That is why that the city is usually an after thought. Hopes that makes sense to you...it's very late here. |

You can actually get your site ranked for the plural form of your keyword without changing anything on your main site. Just start backlinking to your site and alternate between both versions of the keyword as your anchor text.
