I know wordpress.com hosted blog POSTS get indexed. Do the 'pages' get indexed as well? I seem to recall a post somewhere that said that they might not be included in Google... any body know the answer to this question? I'm not talking about wordpress.org blogs hosted on your own hosting acct. hmm, while I'm at it, and since I will be moving over to that set up... do the pages on a self hosted wordpress blog get indexed??? thanks |

Yes they will be indexed just the same as posts. They are not included in the rss feed but that doesn't stop them being indexed. Andrew |

Thanks!!! I needed that ![]() hmm, is it possible to use too many categories and / or tags to suit Google's taste? I mean, it's been said that if you enter too many keywords and keyword phrases in a meta tag Google will pronounce you 'sleazy' and your site will get penalized. Can you get penalized (or pronounced sleazy) for too many tags? too many categories? thanks... I'm working on a project/ product for people to use the free blogs, and not a paid hosting acct... it's for people starting over from scratch, dead broke see my blog post in the warriors blogs http://www.warriorforum.com/blogs/da...s-shelter.html

I don't see any problem with categories and tags. I used that to get more than 200 pages indexed for my blog. I got friends who use this tags and categories to rank for a very competitive term!

Thanks Alex, what I was asking is will we get penalized if we go overboard with too many tags/ too many categories? will Google penalize us for over doing it? Anyone aware of a 'cut off point' where this much is ok, but this much is too much? |

David, remember that if you have too many links in one page, the authority value of the page is divided among those links, unless they are nofollow-ed. If a page doesn't have enough authority value (PR in Google), it will not be indexed by Google. So having too many links on a page can hurt because of the PR distribution. Enough technical talk, you should think from your visitors standpoint. If you have too many categories, will they be confused? Will those categories hurt your most wanted response you want for your blog pages? |

To answer your first question, if you blog using wordpress hosted by wordpress say, david.wordpress.com, YES, that gets indexed by Google and actually holds nice authority since its coming of that domain (wordpress has a lot of authority with Google) Hosting your own wordpress blog also gets you indexed with Google considering you're not spamming which Im sure you're not. The fastest way to get indexed is submitting a story in your blog to social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Stumble, etc. |

I didn't think of what you suggested... I knew it was possible to visit a page that had the no follow tag coded into it. didn't occur to me that I could no follow a url ??? Hmmm, do you know what's involved with setting that up? is it as simple as adding ("target=_blank") to a url? PS, I already knew how to get my pages indexed... what I was specifically asking is this: Let's say I have:
Some rank really well Others do not perform quite as nicely is it because I used too many tags? too many categories? is it possible to spam a tag and / or category the way it's possible to spam an online classified ad directory? another for example: a year ago Squidoo got ranked instantly and scored high in rankings. ...too many savvy marketers saw this ...too many savvy Guru's did TOO GOOD a job informing all the rest of us marketers Google saw this: now the 'value' of a Squidoo page is watered down ??? I'm asking this: is it possible to 'water down' the good effect of a strategy that obviously works? ... is it possible to OVER DO it? thanks "I never made a dime on the web - until I became an INTERNET MARKETING WARRIOR!!!!"
