Hi all, I have kept records of some of the old search numbers on some of some of my keywords and I have noticed a pattern between the old and new search results: ![]() (exact, local searches) Although there is a drastic drop, the drop seems to be quite consistent in all the keywords, suggesting a pattern. So here is my theory: If you were targeting/making money from keywords that has 3000 exact searches using the older tool, you may want to target keywords that has at least 400-500 exact searches in the new tool, and so on. Is anyone else experiencing the same number change patterns? p.s. for those who are still speculating about the number drops, Google have already released a statement on the new lower figures: "In addition to these improvements, we’ve also changed how we calculate Global Monthly Searches and Local Monthly Searches. Statistics in these columns are now based on Google.com search traffic only. Previously, they also included traffic from search partners. We've updated these statistics based on advertiser feedback, and hope you find them more helpful for keyword selection" The excerpt is taken from: AdWords Agency Blog: Updated Keyword Tool: Out of Beta |

judging by good/bad Adwords does at geographical targeting, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the local results were more of an estimate than global. I have not seen a pattern. We have a keyword where between the old & new tool, it's exactly the same. Interesting theory though and I do like the new tool.. seems to be fairly accurate in my very early opinion. Looking forward to more case studies coming out soon! |
