I read that targetting too many keywords and trying to fit too many keywords in the meta tags will not be effective. Anyone knows how many keywords should one target for each website/niche? |

Google ranks web pages, not web sites. Create your web pages for specific keywords and the only limitation is your time and imagination. Focus on a handful of keywords (pages) at a time and get them moving through the rankings before moving onto another set. It takes time for rankings to get to the front page so juggle between promotion and content creation to be efficient. |

There is no limitation to your keywords , you can have as many of them as you can handle efficiently.

We have to target more than 5 keyword but according to requirement. And always target one keyword or two keyword for once time from one URL.

Personally, I work with 3 short tail words at a time. Easy to work with, easy to track. Once they rank, then I start again with the next 3 words.

On a single page you can target 2-3 keywords, which also depend on its character length. It is impossible to target more than 3 keywords on a single page. But sometimes even if you target the inner page for a particular keyword then also home page is shown in search result.

It takes some time for pages to start rank so you could even stagger it. Work on the first set of keywords for the first week or 2, then work on the second set or keywords for the next couple of weeks. Rotate between these 2 sets until the rankings and where you want them to be and then move on. Every once in a while come back and check on previous keywords (send some fresh backlinks) to make sure they don't start falling behind again. | |
