The Alexa rank reported on the toolbar is the 3 month average, so since your site is only 2 month old it hasn't had enough time to collect data. Also, you have to have people visiting your site that have the toolbar installed. That happens naturally when you start getting some decent traffic, but its possible that with a small amount of traffic no one with the toolbar installed has visited the site yet. |

Alexa ranking does really equate to traffic. The first step is to understand WHERE your traffic is coming from. Think of traffic as leads to a business...any successful business owner knows where their leads are coming from (this is especially important as you start paying to get traffic). I'm not sure of your experience level, but here's how you can check the source of your traffic using a "web analytics" software Your hosting control panel - Most hosting services offer AWStats or Webalizer....find either of those in your control panel and look for the "Traffic Sources". There are 3 basic sources of traffic (direct, search, referral). Direct is someone literally typing in your URL in the address bar. Referral is someone clicking on a link on someone elses site and ending up on your site. Search is similar to referral, except the "click" happend on a search engine (organic search, Pay per click). Find out where that traffic is coming from. In your case, maybe it is Alexa toolbar, but don't be surprised if it's from organic search around the keyword you blog is talking about. 3rd Party - AWStats and Webilzer use 'web logs' and don't need to be installed. Then there are more advanced analytics packages such as Google Analytics, PIWIK, Yahoo Analytics, etc. These include a small piece of code you insert onto every page of your site, then you log into their admin interface and can see everything imaginable about your traffic (even eCommerce, PPC integration, etc). Looking at charts is one thing....knowing what needs to change can be something entirely different |
