Default Are Sub-domains or TLDs better for SEM? What do you think?

I am here to get your opinion. I want to know if it is better to have sub-domains and TLDs for search engine marketing. If yes, then how do I go about it? My main objective is to improve the ranking of my client’s web site. What do you think is the best method? His website is related to replica handbags and sunglasses. I thought of having a keyword-oriented URL. But, I do not know which keyword to choose from a wide option. If I add that in my sub-domains, will that provide to be a profitable deal? Please help!

Default Re: Are Sub-domains or TLDs better for SEM? What do you think?

Google looks at sub-domains as a different site. Sure they give a boost to keyword rich domains all other variables being equal. But the real boost comes from targeted anchor text and authority sites linking to you. You probably already know this.

Just do a search for your niche and look at the top results... how many sub-domains do you find?

When you reverse engineer your competitors how many sub-domains do you find?

The most important thing you can do is get them ranking for local search... take advantage of every opportunity - like Google Places, Linked in, Facebook. You can generate a ton of traffic and word of mouth linking by going where everyone else goes. Fighting it out for Search is often a poor use of time.
