Default Nofollow versus dofollow?

I need some clarification here:

Does it really make a difference if a third party site which contains backlinks to my site? Do all bots not count nofollow sites as backlink sources?

If someone could briefly elaborate on the subject, that'd be great - thanks!

Well nofollow links do count as backlinks. However they are supposed to not pass link juice. So a nofollow backlink is always better than no backlink at all.

I have seen many people claiming that nofollow links help their rankings as much as normal backlinks.

So it's just one of those controversial ambiguous 'better safe than sorry' things - I hate those.

I guess for the time being I'll stick to getting as many dofollow links as I can..
I would imagine that some search engines adhere to these while others ignore them..

As far as i'm aware- google love is what helps you in serps, and nofollow links have much lesser effect than dofollow, where do follow adds google love/link juice

I don't actually append DOFOLLOW onto my links when utilizing them, I only set NOFOLLOW if necessary.
