This will work on ANY site, period.

step one: go to google.com, then type in your main keyword
( the keyword you want to rank for )

step two: to your left click "More search tools"

step three: click "Wonder wheel"

step four: you will see a wheel with spokes that has your keyword in the center. at the end of each spoke are keywords that GOOGLE thinks are relevant to your keyword.

step five: write unique articles ( or outsource them ) for each of these keywords and post one each day to your site. If you use wordpress you can put each one under it's own category.

It is important that you post only 1 each day unless you have a high PR site! ( smart SEO's will build back links to these on site articles, with RELEVANT content )

step six: make sure that each of these pages is accessible via your home page.

step seven: if your niche is really high competition, clicking on each of the keywords at the end of each spoke will reveal more keywords, you can then write articles based on these keywords.

Why this works:

Google is still very important and since THEY think that these keywords are relevant, WE should think so too.

They will simply rank you higher because your site will be more 'relevant' in their eyes.

the wonder wheel is pretty cool to finding some keywords. good idea to sprinkle them around the content of your page.

another good place to find some related keywords is at the "searches related to..." section at the bottom of the google search results

Google´s wonder wheel is a free tool which tells you what keywords google would expect to see with a main keyword, so it's advisable to use those keywords as secondary keywords.
For me it was not easy to find the wheel. I had to do a google search because they changed its location.

Just FYI, the phrases in the "Searches related to..." area at the bottom of the results ARE the Wonder Wheel phrases. They're identical.

And yes, the OP makes a good point about doing this to improve rankings. It also can work on the same page. Make a list of the Wonder Wheel phrases and try to work them into your page of content. Including them will boost your ranking for the main keyword you're looking to rank for on that page. Then do what the OP lays out and you'll also have a shot at ranking for each of those phrases on their own pages.

This really depends heavily on picking a starting keyword that isn't too heavily competitive, though. Otherwise, just like any other time, you'll need bucketloads of backlinks. Same as it ever was.

Looking at the results it gives you will have a tough time getting actual rank for the other keywords. However the main keyword I used is a very very competitive keyword. So your best bet would be to first do your keyword research then use this strategy to eliminate the extreamly broad terms. It would work really well for adding on to a site with good ranking already though. Simply taking that information given to you could open up alot of doors for any marketer. He has given some really good advice though.

If you niche is extremely competitive, simply click on the spokes of the wheel and go after those secondary keywords. In fact you can drill down many levels deep so you'll have plenty of ideas of keywords that Google finds are relevant to your topic.

Remember, Google is always about relevancy, they always have been and always will be. Wasn't it crazy when they even started making their PPC relevant, that pissed off a lot of people. This is why, if our content is good and relevant, not only does Google love it, but consumers will love it to. This data is not random and is actually based on what people are searching for in your respective niche.

Yes, however the biggest hurtle a lot of SEO's have is beating out sites with higher PR. The more relevant your site is for these keywords, the better you'll do. Continue to build high quality backlinks and get REAL traffic to your site. You must do these three things to get good consistent rankings.

1/ great on page relevancy (SEO)

2/ good quality back links (votes from other sites telling google what your site is about)

3/ traffic that stays for more than 30-60 seconds... (quality traffic)

It's also a great idea to use these same keywords from the Wonder Wheel and put them in your navigation bar. It proves to Google that you have a good structure for organizing and that'll rank you higher.

Hey Derek,

I sent you a thanks for this, as i've seen it before and built a linkwheel to one of my sites sometime ago that worked like gangbusters. This post just reminded me of the awesome effects it can have. I may do for the rest of my sites. I was checking the wonder wheel for one of my more competitive niches but the wheel links didn't have any kind of sense to them really

I guess maybe just need to rewrite them a little and put in your title with some on page seo tactics? My other site was alot easier.

Zero, Yes, however the biggest hurtle a lot of SEO's have is beating out sites with higher PR. The more relevant your site is for these keywords, the better you'll do. Continue to build high quality backlinks and get REAL traffic to your site. You must do these three things to get good consistent rankings. 1/ great on page relevancy (SEO) 2/ good quality back links (votes from other sites telling google what your site is about) 3/ traffic that stays for more than 30-60 seconds...
