Massive Backlinks disappearing in Yahoo Site Explorer

I checked Yahoo Site Explorer today, and was dismayed to see that over 1/2 of my backlinks had vanished.

So, I went to a buddy's site, as well as 3 other competitors, and the same thing had happened to them as well.

Does anyone know what is going on? It doesn't just seem to be with my site, and I didn't know if there was some sort of backlink cleanup process that they do a few times a year?

Please let me know.

I just checked and see about a 30% drop

Is that pretty par for the course??? I have seen it happen before, with no reason whatsoever given....

Could be due to the increased integration with Bing. Remember that Bing now powers Yahoo's search results.

I have the same problem. Backlinks are showing half of what they were two days ago.

Mine are showing the same! there is no drop at all, usually this happens, sometimes the site explorer shows too many links and sometimes it shows half, i would suggest you to check again tomorrow, may be you will be able to see same no of backlinks again!

To be honest, it shouldn't matter all that much. People are getting too hung up with "reported" backlinks. The backlinks are still there. Carry on people.

I was using seolinkvine and noticing the massive drop as well. However, I haven't seen much effect in rankings as a result. Would love to know what's going on too.

It used to happen sometime but not like this. This time Yahoo Explorer is showing very very less backlinks. Hope it will come back soon!

guys listen to Tom G's posts...

Yahoo site explorer does not indicate the actual amount of backlinks you have.

if your site has 1000 backlinks, yahoo site explorer can fluctuate their number anywhere from 300 one day to 800 the other day... you still have 1000 backlinks but yahoo is just not showing all of them.

Heck you will have even less reported backlinks if you check with google LOL

In a few months there will no longer be such thing as site explorer as yahoo switched to bing powered search.

Just keep building the best you can and don't get caught up with actual backlink numbers.

Gee, I don't want to sound like the sky is falling or anything, the back link issue, that doesn't exist, has just taken 3 of my sites out of number one spot.
That seems to me that something is going on.
48 of my sites have lost a lot of links over the past 2 days, now I am seeing ranking changes.
Hell one of my sites stopped showing WF back links
It does appear to be links from duplicate sites (or perhaps posts)

I have lost huge numbers, I think they are beginning to discount links like google does.

I was around 400. Dropped to 200 ish. Now it's rebounded to 1000 and rising everyday. Whatever they did... I like it!

It seems to be rebounding now as my "Yahoo domain" and "Yahoo page" backlinks are showing rightly again, except for "Majestic SEO" links

mmm... my site have all bounced back, more on first page and number one than before.
The actual links are not showing up for me in Market Samurai though.
All good.
Seems that I should have shut up and taken notice of people who knew what they were talking about.

It was a valid point you made but fortunately all is good again here for my sites.
Rankings are a touch down but I will wait a week before deciding on what to do.

Yes, I've had the same experience...dropped my backlinks on one site from about 340 down to 134, now down to 0 depending on which tool I use. Backlinkwatch.com still shows about 300 though so maybe itj's just Yahoo? If I go to Google webmaster tools they are showing the same site with 231 which isn't horrible for google, I suppose. I think it has to do with "revamping" of Bing/Yahoo search engine,but who can be sure? I appreciate any updates...

As far I know your backlink in yahoo site explorer can decrease If only your link partner delete your link or other sources delete your link from where you get those backlinks.
