When you anchor text your keyword does it make a difference if you use http://yourdomain.com OR http://www.yourdomain.com ? And must you stick to one of them or does it make no difference at all? many thanks! |

http://yoursite.com and http://www.yoursite.com then you need to redirect one of them to the other so there is only 1 version of your homepage. Google sees both of those as separate sites, so you need to only have 1 version. And with your anchor text, you need to use the same one everytime. It doesn't matter which one you use, but it needs to be the same one everytime you build a link. So for example, if you've been building links with http://yoursite.com then you need to use that for every anchor text. Don't vary it, keep it exactly the same.

This is actually a VERY interesting topic that never really gets discussed.. I have heard the same thing mentioned above...that it does not matter, as long as you stick to one...but i did not know it would be better to redirect one to the other...Have you tested this Jacob? Maybe we should consider doing a small test..build some distinct backlinks via http://www and then a few more with just http:// and then see if Google interprets them any differently in webmaster tools?? |

Just do it. No need to test it. If you can access your site from two different URLS than so can Google. Make it so there is only 1.

It's OK you can do a 301 redirect from one to the other. I just did it for one of my sites, I redirected the //domain.com to //www.domain.com

It does not matter as long as you are consistent. Don't use both, simply pick one and stick with it.

Haven't heard this discussion in a while! As mentioned above, you really only want one version of your site and backlinks should all be created to either the http:// or http://www. version. If you have backlinks pointing to both or just want to play it safe, add a 301 redirect to one of the versions. For the people who need it, here is the source code that you need to add to the page in order to redirect it the the other version: Quote:
Where I have put "ADD URL HERE", enter the URL that you want to redirect to. Cheers, Dave

If your site having www and you make submission without www then Google consider there are 2 versions of the site. That affects site ranking. So, better way is use http://www for backlinking.

I think Jacob is right here.We should always redirect www or non www to one version.Otherwise it can be harmful for our website ranking. If you have redirect any one then you can build links with that url.
