Arrow Google's broken? (indexing problems about as of Friday, the 23rd)

I clicked on a search result for an article from Popular Science earlier today, and I was taken to the directory of a German server..

After some research, it turns out Google is having indexing problems all over. Small and large websites everywhere are affected.

Is Google Broken? Sites Big & Small Seeing Indexing Problems

It's a Google earthquake.
Goodness, hold me.

the title is supposed to say "indexing problems abound"

Probably the result of being forced fed too many spun articles, profile links, bookmarks, and sheer crap each and every second.

The less crap google indexes, the better.

Google broken...yeah that's a good one.

Maybe people need to realize that google is under no obligation to index your site.

They are actually 'broken' right now. They aren't indexing new content on CNN and other authority sites as well as those not in authority. Their best of the best, smartest guys in the room, the world's best engineers, bright young programmers allowed a serious bug slip into production, imagine that. I thought only old fuddy duddys or people who graduated from less prestigious schools let that kind of thing happen.

LOL, really? I had two posts that I posted last night get indexed on a PR4 site of mine in under 2 hours each, and just tested a new post and it wax indexed (on its own..no bookmarking..and no pinging other than the built-in WP pinger) in under 5 minutes on its own. PR4 blogs > CNN apparently.

I see no evidence of this whatsoever in the campaigns we're running. We had several sites we just created shoot to page one within a few days. We put a lot of effort into on page optimization though.

Well, maybe someone there will say, "I meant to do that."

I don't like CNN anyway.

I rarely check to see my indexing, as I never stress out on it.
Checked a blog post I did on Oct 23, indexed, no problem.

This thread is indexed...

Evidently, I wasn't conceptually clear in terms of language:

Google is DAMAGED.

That is to say, it's experiencing a wide variety of glitches in terms of both indexing and linking within SERP's.

That's NOT to say that Google's indexing capability is broken in every way, shape and form and if your pages ARE getting indexed, I'm probably fabricating this whole fiasco.

Sheesh, adamant much?

I hate to take an abrasive tone here, but I'm glad it's Google's job to decide on what "crap" is, and not yours.

You could have at least read the article which this thread pertains to before hastily engaging in your rampant criticism.

This will be the excuse everyone will use for months.

Neither do I.

However, I do enjoy moments where overconfident, over educated, brilliant young programmers screw up royally in the face of the chaos inherent in complex software systems.

There was a problem with indexing new content on some sites over the past week or so that I noticed after some other people mentioned indexing problems here and elsewhere. I think they probably have corrected the problem by now, either by fixing the bug or rolling back to the previous version. It may have also been a partial rollout (aka testing in the production environment) that they had to pull back.

I do agree with Yukon that this glitch will be accused of many things in the coming months, just like other Google screw-ups in the past have been used to imply many other things.

The fact is that as automated as google becomes, it is run by humans, and humans are human.

If you mean that you got some different results each time you have searched, its not unusual. Sometimes it happens and i have experienced it too. But i have not seen a lot of changes on search engine results. The position of some websites changed a little not too much. And if the results you got changed a lot, its a new problem.

It may be that you would be searching the same keywords again and again.
