Hey, If I wanted to rank for: "Coca Cola", how much harder would it then be for me if I bought: ecocacola.com or cocacola1000.com - I know it would be easier if I actually owned cocacola.com - but how much do that letter or number affect my rankings? How much more work should I put in? It's not that I don't wan't to work, but If I would like to outrank the number 1 spot - it's about making it as easy as possible, so what are your thoughts on this? Coca Cola is just an example - it could be everything like: mynameiswi.com or emynameiswi.com if the first one was already taken. Thank you guys |

Your ranking does not depend on your URL title. Go with what looks / sounds best. How you measure up will depend on your competition.

Registering a domain like 'ecocacola.com' will get you a pretty quick UDRP letter and a letter from Coke's lawyer. Not a smart move... |

Of course if your domain has a part of your target keyword, it can help you to rank higher. Even if you add some letters before or after your main keyword, it can help you. But for ranking high for high competitive keywords, only domain name can not help you on its own. You should make strong quality backlinks for your domain to rank high for competitive keywords. |

You need to add a dash in the right places. If you use a nonsense term, like 10000, you need cocacola-1000. But I shy away from numbers. I like adding words like -planet -bonk -stuff -box -wall -index -highway -fast -world -utopia -clicks ....you get the idea. I guess it's not much of a secret. Notice how these endings are not really keywords? For the most part they become ignored. That's the key. Cool domain still! Dashes are needed in many cases, contrary to popular belief, especially adding words above. And especially to separate keywords from nonsense addons like the above as well. Subtle difference between cocacolaworld.com and cocacola-world.com But the difference in the long run can be huge. A person knows exactly what the second one is about. And that's what google tells you to do. I do believe coca cola was just an example... I also think coke, the company, is very lax about worrying about what domains use coke, coca cola, etc. Their collectible fan base is huge. I do believe a fan site is fair game. Paul |

Yes, this is illigal, CocaCola may sue you, as you are using name almost similar to his company name.
