Tried to keep the title as brief as I could and to the point so, bang, hope it worked. I had a site (stopped it now) that had crazy estimated CPC figures per keyword tool. Now obviously I'm not expecting anywhere near that figure but I would have thought I would have got more than keywords that had estimated CPC of 1/20th of first batch. Had a quick look at Google explanation and it basically states that it decides how likely the "clicker" is to go on and buy and decides on the share from that. There was other stuff mentioned too but this was the general gist of it. Now, does anyone know of any content anywhere or a previous WSO that would detail how to optimize a site for that? We all hear of searching for low competition high cpc keywords but what use are they if they dont earn what they should if Google dont interpret the clicks as being worthwhile? Dont know if I came across clear, hopefully I did ![]() ![]() |

You need to realize that Google takes ~30% of the earnings from each click. And the estimated CPC is only an estimate (and an old one at that). The keyword tool could be saying $5.00 CPC but when you set up a campaign you might be able to get a good position for less. And then you have to realize that not all of the ads are paying the same amount for the same keyword. The lower they're displayed on your page, the less you get paid for them.

I am coming from a "person putting adsense on his site" perspective. First part of your reply kinda looked like you thought I was coming from an advertisers point and the latter being the correct side lol. And the estimated cpc of main keyword is up at £102, and the rest around the £40-£90 bracket. Got 2 clicks in first 2 days though they were only 60p total. |

It’s kind of hard to say without a lot more info but I’ll give you feedback based on my assumptions. If you’ve only had 2 clicks, I’m guessing the site is fairly new. In that case you are “guilty until proven innocent” ESPECIALLY for high CPC KWs. G is trying to ascertain the value of those clicks (as you correctly found out by reading G’s explanation). Those 2 clicks may have looked like low quality clicks for a number of reasons: traffic source, time spent on page before clicking and most of all… behavior by visitor AFTER they clicked through. Seeing ridiculously low payouts on high CPC KWs can be real frustrating but give it a bit more time, collect a bit more data and you will probably be able to make an educated guess as to what is the problem so that you can address it. If, after some time and more data you are still puzzled, bring it back here and we’ll figure it out together. |
