Well sometimes yes, sometimes no. All I can say is that (for me at least) sites with a lot of content (100+ pages) do very well while smaller sites struggle. I don't really worry about backlinks and all of that, I just try to add lots of content on a regular basis. Once a page is ranking well, I ease up on the new stuff so I don't inadvertently screw it up.

It can be a struggle with competitive keywords, i have got my site on page 1 for all the keywords i wanted. try and go for keywords which are under a couple of thousand per month, then build on that. it does take time and hard work.

its all about the competition you are trying to target. If you want to target "digital camera" or "dating" you will literally never make it to the front page. This is why keyword research is so important. I find its quite easy to get to the front page of google, but much harder to get to the #1 spot where 50% of the traffic goes...

Its all the about keyword research and the competition. I personally go for the low hanging fruit and find keywords I know will be easy to rank for in Google. I also choose keywords that are "buying Keywords" I look to see what the competition is doing and copy their success. For example if I see a lot of web 2.0 sites I will create an article and try to outrank the others with link building. If I see a lot of exact domain names for a keyword then I will purchase a domain name close to the keyword I am trying to rank for. Of course their are other things to consider but these are the most important. Hope that helps, Frankie

It's definitely hard without any kind of tools. Invest in tools first and it gets a lot easier. Also, try concentrating on one site instead of doing SEO for many sites all at once. One project is of course easier to manage. That being said, just keep on building the links and Google should show you some love real soon.

Nope. pretty easy. I've had test sites get there in less than a week . Like they said its all about keyword research.

I only have 2 sites right now, and one was climbing pretty well (page 2) and then I plugged it into one of those "type your url in and we generate 2k backlinks automatically" pages.. and now my domain is ranked like 400. Sigh.

I have reached #2 on page 1 for a keyword at about 15k searches per month... the site has pretty good on-page SEO and I checked the competitors backlinks to use as an outline for my own backlink strategy so I got on page 1 in less than 2 months (originally 2 weeks but then dropped off due to server issues). I also have sites on page 1 (spots 1 through 5) of kw's with 100k searches. These were mainly from good content and article marketing and took like 6 months to 1 year to get there. Probably would have been quicker had I researched competition properly.

That is a very generic statement. Reaching the top 3 of Google all comes down to preparation, competition and time. It all depends on what you are going after but inevitably no matter what you target, if you build your site properly and optimize it correctly and build enough backlinks you can topple any site ( given enough time and effort ) I run a SEO company and whenever I do a contract and assess a campaign, inevitably it will come down to those factors. Follow the basics and keep at it and you will always get to the first page of Google |

Generally I have no probs getting sites/articles/blogs to the top of the serps. Does not normally take any longer than 2 weeks, even for new sites. But then again I have some pretty powerful strategies, especially when it comes to EZA. Just my 2c worth.

| Another reason I am reluctant to use automatic submission services...again. I learned that the hard way a long time ago.

Getting to the first page isn't possible. It takes a lot of work and some time. I believe SEO levels the playing field like no other form of internet marketing because it's not about how much money you spend but who smart and efficient you work.

I purchased a load of blog comments for my last site & ended up with my link on the most spammy looking blogs you'll ever see. I checked a few links from the report I was sent after the job was complete & I was horrified at what I saw. Honestly there was soooo many comments on these blogs that the page took like 5 minutes to laod. My back link was shared with thousands of others. Thankfully it turned out not be a site I was going to use so I scrapped it. Can you imagine spending months building the perfect site to just destroy it with mass spam links! ![]() I'm very, very careful when it comes to back linking now.

If you think it is impossible to get Page 1, then you will not get it. It is that simple. But let me say, you can easily rank Page 1 even for highly competitive keywords. Sure, it will take more time (around 3 - 6 months) than other keywords, but it is not that had task. Have a right On site structure, (includes improving the number of pages on your site with the right inner linking) and build quality backlinks each day when you have time. Then you will see the results. It is that simple. ![]() Orkhan Azer |

As others have said, your choice of keyword is critical. It would be easy to take the #1 spot for "Purple Poodle Breeders" but what value would there be in that, as nobody is searching for a purple poodle breeder. Alternatively, if you wanted to rank #1 for the term "Airsoft Guns" it might be a lot more difficult...but there would actually be value in being able to reap the traffic that such a rank would give you. |
