Default Arent you tired of keyword mining?

Hello Warriors, you probably know that thousands of marketers that use PPC advertising get lots of clicks but very little to no sales right? I have read many posts in various forums where people complain that the "money making" courses, blueprints, etc. that they have purchased don't work.

My experience is that most will work, but the TRAFFIC they are attracting or paying for is not the right kind! In a nutshell, there are basically two kinds of searches in Google & other SE's.

The first are what I call "early in the search cycle" search terms. These are people looking for education on something. They are click happy but are "not ready" to buy.

Now here's the secret! The second are what I call "end of the search cycle" search terms. These are people who have satisfied their education needs and are "ready to buy".

Most marketers pay for and target the first category and then wonder why they get so few sales. I always hear things like "I had 300 clicks to my landing page and no sales! What am I doing wrong?"

The trick to successful PPC and search term marketing if your selling something is two target the "keywords that sell", those people who are ready to buy stuff. So there you have it!

If you are intrested in knowing more which I'm sure you as any real marketer would be drop me a P.M and we can talk about this more.

Can you pls elaborate a little more on this. How to identify which keywords fall under the category of "early in the search cycle" and which ones come in "end of the search cycle"

Hi YesOrNo,

While I agree partially with what you say, you are simply advocating going for the low hanging fruit only. This approach is similar to targeting only the highest ROI keywords. If you take this approach you may forfeit substantial amounts of profit.

Early cycle keywords can be even more profitable than late cycle keywords if you are paying a low enough CPC. You seem to be advocating an oversimplified approach that forfeits all profits except those from late cycle keywords. This is fine if you are not trying to make the most profit possible.

You will still lose money if you overpay for late cycle keywords. Poor quality scores and poorly optimized account structure will force you to pay more than you competitors for the exact same keywords.

In my opinion, the real problem most folks are facing in your above described scenario is low conversion rates based on a poor performing landing page. It may very likely be better to improve your landing page rather than accept the paltry amounts that you receive from a poor landing page targeting late cycle keywords.

By improving your Landing Page you not only can convert early cycle keywords, you will also convert many more of the late cycle keywords.

I think the biggest problem is that a lot of PPC marketers try to use a "set and forget" approach to managing their PPC accounts. Or, they following a grossly over simplified strategy.

While making a profit is better than losing money, I wouldn't advocate making the smallest profit possible. Going for the largest possible profit is infinitely superior.

I am not sure if it is easy to distinguish between such keywords. May be you are referring to Long tail keywords for second type. But i think it is subjective as well and depends upon person who is using it.

Eben is right, long tail. In fact make a long tail of long tails. It's not only economically good sense but you're likely to rank quickly and therfore stay motivated

Targeting the people that are wanting to buy is the key to making money
Otherwise you get loads of traffic but no sales
