How can you prevent a blog page out ranking the Homepage?

How can you prevent -if you can- a blog page out performing your Home page? i.e the Homepage site is: mysitedot.com , the blog is: mysitedot.com/blog

The blog page will have more current content, posts etc. Will it rank better than than the Home Page? . What can you do to prevent this?

How can you easily send traffic to the Home page?

If you build backlinks to yoursite.com you don't have to worry about your blog out ranking it. If you want to have both ranked on page 1 it will just be a case of balancing your link building to make sure the home page gets a little more love than any other pages.
