Checking SERP Position

I have a new site that I am beginning to build backlinks to. How can I check SERP without having to troll through hundreds of pages of results (I'm sure I am waaaaay back there as of now

)

Use many tools. Traffic Travis, Majestic SEO, SEOMoz (a favorite of mine). Even if you're checking with these other tools, be sure to drill down through the Google backlinks to get a feeling for which backlinks are working for you.

thanks for the advice jewin.how long does it take for google to recognize backlinks usually?

Download the SEOquake plugin for firefox... you can check your rankings for multiple keywords at once.

I've only been doing IM for 2 weeks and I blew it on my first site with my poor keyword research. I'm suggesting you might ask one of the guru's to look at what you are doing before you spend a bunch of time link building.

My first inclination was to find a technical product niche, then when I got a better handle on keyword research I realized the competition is huge in those niches.

There are 814,000 sites that contain the exact keywords "digital voice recorder" from what I've heard that is about 20x what a typical niche affiliate marketer would be looking for.

Then again, I'm really new to this and you may be doing something that I don't know anything about.

Actually, you probably are, and if so I apologize if it seems I am impugning your approach. That is not my intention.

there is a very good tool called cute rank . it has good graphics which shows your previous page rank , current page rank and best page rank.

There are lots of softwares out there like Traffic Travis and SEO Powersuite.

But I'd highly recommend this web-based Rank Checker.

Love, love, love this plugin!

As for SERP rankings - I didn't know it did that lol! But if you want a quick, accurate glimpse at competition, it doesn't get any better than this little plugin. You can customize which stats you want to see when you do a search in G or look at pages individually. And you can turn it on and off with the click of a button WITHOUT restarting the browser.

Just DL it...

Most of the tools seem to need download and install, I wanted to find just a simple online rank checker so i googled a bit and this one seem to work fine: Rankchecker.net SEO Tool

edit: seocentro suggested earlier seems good too

There are many useful tools to consider regarding in checking SERP position. I usually use seocentro.

If you just want to do a quick check without software, you can just add "&num=100" to the search string in Google, that way you'll see 100 results per page so you don't have to go through as many pages.

I am new to this as well, and under the guidance of some coaching I think (think being the operative word here) I chose a lower competition keyword. We shall see...

I just saw an MMO saying less than a million was fine for niche marketing, so I'm sure your fine.

I'm going for 100,000 or less just for the confidence booster then maybe I'll work up to more competitive niches.

in fact there is a plenty of rank checkers. some offer one-time check, some offer daily monitoring and other features. SEOMoz is good but pretty limited with free account. I use Serpanalytics - it is much more affordable!

I'm a fan of Rank Tracker by Link-assistant.com. Pretty solid and it doesn't take trolling tens of pages to find your website.
Simply put in your KWs and site URL and off you go.
