Default Redirecting established sites

Hopefully someone can answer this for me.

I have a site I setup a while ago, made a good few posts and then just left it. Too many other things on the go, plus I have a much bigger site in the same niche.

I'm now in the process of moving hosts and am wondering whether to redirect this smaller site to the bigger one? Will it hurt, help; will I need to copy the posts...?

It's not a huge issue, just that I can't see myself keeping this particular site updated so am thinking if it's redirected I can pass the links it has to the bigger site.

Sorry if it sounds a bit dumb. Techie isn't really my thing and while I'm ok with the basics of SEO, the effect of redirection isn't something I've seen much about.

If you redirect your website using 301 redirect, its safe and OK and it doesn't hurt your ranking.
