Default I think this was so obvious I couldn't see it.

I've been under the weather the past couple of day. Started with crazy allergy/sinus effects, that tore up my throat and settled in my chest.
Not good when your livelyhood depends on talking to people.
And those past 2 days are a bit 'fuzzy'... but I was looking at my primary website and continued to be annoyed at how FEW backlinks google shows the site having (through webmaster tools). I build Angela's links monthly, as well as daily posting to blogs, etc.
I work hours upon hours, can't QUITE get on the 1st page of google search (waffles around), inspite of the fact I *appear* to have more BL's than my competitors, only to see i have only 385 backlinks.

Then, yesterday, it hit me.
I make a blog post, or forum post, or forum profile, and sit back and WAIT for Google to find it and have it show up.
I keep waiting...

And I realized the step I MIGHT be missing is after each post, or each forum profile - to PING that page. MAKE google take a look at it.

So,
1. does this make sense? Are you leaders doing this?
2. What ping service should I use?
3. am I missing any other obvious step here?

Are you using WordPress? WordPress automatically pings new posts (I think it's usually set up to automatically ping Ping-O-Matic by default). If I do it by hand, I like Pingler and Pingoat.

Well, yes, but I'm specifically talking about pinging new pages. Say I make a comment on CNN.com, or some random blog with an article on something... does it make sense to ping that page after I make the comment?
It seems i make comments and Google never or VERY slowly picks up on it.
Further, if I set up a forum profile with a backlink to my site, does it make sense to ping that profile page?
Am I on the right track here?

I have found that WMT rarely shows you the inbound links from forums upon a profile creation. If you actually contribute and make a post, you wouldn't have to worry about pinging your profiles as the posts would get indexed anyways.

Pinging your links is a thing of the past. If you are spending time building profile backlinks and not also working to get those links indexed, you are wasting your time.

Check out Backlink Energizer by one of our very own warriors:

Backlinks - Get Quality Backlinks by the 1,000's w/ Backlink GoldMine

It's a hell of a plugin and it will get your links indexed better than any other system. And it's pretty much all autopilot.

first, thanks for the help everyone... but I think I'm about to ask an obvious, complete NOOB question here...
I thought when I pinged a page where I just put my links was working to get it indexed...
After a brief review, are you saying that pinging it so the SE's know to look is so insignificant without also building links to it from social bookmarks??
Inquiring minds (are tying to figure this crap out. Every time I learn something I find 3 things i don't know)

Everything about this thread confuses me *sigh*

What about submitting to digg, stumbleupon, etc. That's what I've been doing to get new pages indexed.

Everytime you create a backlink - articles, forums, social bookmark, rss feed, link directory submission, blog comment - SAVE THE URL! I have a .txt file called "Already_Pinged.txt" that has over 2000 URLs in it! Guess where there's URLs point to...?

A page that has my link somewhere on it! Guess what I did with these URLs...? I pinged them ALL and meta indexed them ALL! And sometimes I repeat this process for sh8ts and giggles! I think my ping list is like 180 different sites!? And I meta index to 1000 sites. I'm at work so I don't have the program or lists that I use in front of me.

If you cause some commotion, maybe a GBot will see this and INDEX the page that contains your backlink... HENCE you get you backlink FASTER!

CHEERS

P.S. CAPSSSSS LOCKKKKKKKK!

Hi Jon,

This is the biggest problems most people who try to use SEO and link build. They bought Packets, Ebooks, etc and hoping that they would get rank to the search engines.

To help you with that, I'd suggest you do the following:
1. Check the keyword you're targeting, Are you sure you're not competing in a tough niche. I'm not saying impossible but your competition has high pr, age of domain etc. that would definitely make it more difficult to outrank

2. Checked your On page, are you using the right terms, positions, Meta tags, no Keyword stuffing, enough content (250+ words)

3. The profile links you've built could take months to be indexed. and if it's not indexed then it would be useless.

Solution, Backlink your backlinks. How? Blog comment, article marketing but point to your profile links.

IMHO, i dont ping anymore, why? IMHO it doesn't get your links indexed just spidered and it's different. When Google spiders your links, Google will determine if it will index it now, later or never. How this works, no one exactly knows.

But when I backlink my backlinks (RSS Feed, etc) I get about 80-90% indexing rates.

Hope this helps. Good luck

Been using Backlink Energizer or a month or so now, too early to tell if it works.

Anyone know for sure if it helps to index your backlinks?

Cheers
