I am really confused for some keyword. It says that Broad has 49k searches Phrase match 2900 exact 170 So if i will rank for the 1st place what can be expected traffic? I know that usually 1st place gets about 40% clicks - but with this keyword is really confusing... What exactly it means? Thank you |

I use exact match when judging keywords for estimated SERP traffic.

Exact Match all of the way...you want to simulate their search as closely as possible. Otherwise, your traffic number will just not add up....mysteriously...

You can estimate about 1/3 of the exact match.

I think you need to understand the terms before you think about traffic. Broad match - the words appear anywhere on the page in any order. Phrase match - has the phrase on the page but includes leading or trailing words as well. Exact match - well it means what is says. Exactly matches your search term. Exact match is how to evaluate traffic and your ranking competition. CTR depends a lot on your meta description and where you rank on the page. |

Broad can be very misleading. Phrase does a much better job but to be safe just go with the exact match numbers. The first spot on the first page can expect 30-50% of the total traffic whereas the tenth spot on the first page can get 0-5% of the total traffic.

If there is that big of a discrepency of broad relative to exact, then there is a huge chance that the people using the words in your exact match are in fact looking for something else anyway. Avoid.

I guess it's apparent enough already. Always take the [exact] rating as a measure of the traffic and expect to get 40% of those to come to your site, if you get placed on #1. Broad and Phrase both can be very misleading... |

Talk about misleading! I used to research keywords for 2 years with broad and only a month ago understood (with the help of this forum) what a huge mistake that was and how much time and effort I spent not searching the right way. Exact is the way like everyone says, only now I get sites up according to Exact search and can expect more sales hopefully. |

The reason I am asking is that I am ranking 4 for that keyword in google/us market where 80% of traffic is for that keyword.... And in 1 week only 2 people came to the site.... I thought its really weird ![]() Because when I build a site it was on the phrase match so I tried exact and saw that it has 170 searches... now it make sense... Means the site is worhless |

Nothing goes to waste man, as long as you have a site that attracts traffic even a little that OK. You can also always modify it for other keywords or links to other sites you'll build from there, every site has value my friend. Good Luck! |
