A lot of people buy backlinks from high PR sites. I think the problem is that search engines may see these overnight backlinks are not genuine. Your site may be regarded as a spam site if you have just got thousands of backlinks overnight

Yes. Its true. Big change in the number of backlinks is really dangerous and search engines try to find are these huge backlinks natural or not. And if they find them unnatural, that website loss its ranking in search engines and returning it to the previous position is really difficult.
