Default Getting backlinks from Wikipedia

I was wondering if anyone has had success getting links from Wikipedia.

I haven't tried it yet, but I know that they are great ones...

I would love to see examples.

If you mean editing external links and adding your site, then this method is pretty much dead. Unless your site is very very good. Some simple sales page, or niche blog is no good. Wiki team will look every link you post and they approve it, if it's any good.

The thing to consider is that any direct traffic from Wikipedia isn't going to be buying traffic but information seeking traffic. Conversion rates will really suck.

Also, the links are nofollow so it won't be any help with PageRank. It may be some help with more nebulous things like trust, site authority and so forth but just how much isn't clear. It certainly doesn't hurt to have them but how much it helps, who knows?

How do you get such links? Essentially, you can get them by ranking well in Google and having somebody who's trusted by the Wikipedia monitors post a link to it without any solicitation on your part. You will need to have content that is good and accurate enough to serve as reference for the article in question. The site will also need to look like it belongs in the niche and not somebody's MFA template with spun content quickie creation. It's unlikely that such links will stick in highly competitive niches due to either editor or competitor action. However, along roads less traveled, these links can be essentially permanent.

Seriously? This whole no-follow thing still has believers?

Anyway, I've gotten a few backlinks from wikipedia - not worth the effort.

ok; thanks for the feedback; I just bought a course for SEO from a very popular guru that teaches that Wikipedia is one of the best places to get links..

Guess not!

It's pretty clear that nofollow links won't pass PageRank. I know from my own experiences that a PR5+ link from Wikipedia does not translate into PR for the pages linked to while similarly ranked links from sites/pages that are followed do have an impact. Of course, that was circa 2008, early 2009, so things could have changed since then.

As for other factors such as ranking or keyword authority, I think that it does have some impact but just how much is unclear to me.

Well i think its no use to add your link on wikipedia as its a no- follow links . So as per the seo is concerned we can not trust this sord of link placement . Get the quality back links and do the link wheel.

I had posted my link on wiki for years and it went unnoticed until I guess some guru caught it and removed it. It worked well for me for a while.

You may create an account in wikipedia and submit your article there. Is not easy to get choose by them because your article need to be informative enough . And they may edit your article as well even they have approve your article.
You need to put lot of effort in it.
