For example, the keyword "tom tom gp 720" has a MOB of 10. So I just need to get 11+ good, do follow, high PR backlinks to get on the first Google page? It doesn't work that way, right? |

I have no idea what the "MOB" is. Has that replaced the Micro Niche Finder "SOC" figure? In any case, it probably doesn't work that way. ![]() Just having a "measure of backlinks" (or a total of backlinks) isn't enough - you need to know the strength of the backlinks (i.e: the PR). A competitor could only have 10 backlinks to their page, but if they were all PR10 (which is unlikely, but this is just an example, obviously) you'd have a hard time beating them out just by getting 11 "good backlinks", because "good" wouldn't be enough. Always be sceptical of any of these proprietary figures that profess to calculate the strength of competition. You're safer doing the analysis yourself, by examining the data in as raw a form as possible ... ... and for me, Market Samurai is best for that, since it just lists the number of backlinks, the anchor-text, and the PR. Remember though that none of the search engines (not even Yahoo) display all known backlinks. Yahoo displays more than Google, but none of them want to reveal everything, because if they did, people would be able to much more easily "suss out" their algorithms. By not giving you the full picture, you don't have access to all the data you'd need to be able to do that with any reasonable level of accuracy or certainty. |

MOB is the measure of back links... It looks at the amount of back links that each site has in the top 10 and gives you an average, so you would understand approximately how difficult it would be to rank. The problem is that each link has different strength behind it. But it is a good thing to take a look at, as long as you keep it in perspective. For instance, if the MOB was 250, you know you have some competition to deal with. If the MOB is 10, then it should be much easier to break into the niche... |

If they had added ALL the backlinks, that would help a lot. But they didn't do it that way. Duh... They should have. |
