Default Could you get in trouble for putting links in forum sigs?

There are registries that track this BTW. Don't ask how I know

It can get you in trouble if you havent been a contributor to the forum and your post count is down. I personally hate it when people new to the forum make one sentence comments that are irrelevant or just ambigous just to get a link. Forums are here for people to help eachother out and learn from others experience. Best way to get value out of your time in forums is to actively participate and contribute. You can contribute just by asking good questions as others may have the same questions and will be able to find answers from other members.

What is the logic then behind backlink packs? Obviously they exist solely to drop your links and never return. How are you going to contribute on a site about Canadian Rockies skiing when your site sells surfboards?

The best way to make your links count is by going to relevant forums related to your keywords. Links from WF wont really do much good for a site about Skiing in the Canadian Rockies lol... your best bet would be to go on Skiing Forums and post comments about how cool the Canadian Rockies are and give a link to your site... one of the best things about blog and forum commenting is the fact that it not only helps you in the serps but drives relevant traffic to your site who will turn into subscribers or customers. Hope that makes sense. Thanks

One Sentence Comment.

Sorry, I'm just kidding. Backlink packs can be used for traffic, authority and getting indexed - all of which are important parts of getting your site high in the SERPs. How much any particular site weighs on this formula is really dependant on your individual circumstances and what side of the bed google woke up on that morning.

This makes sense. I'm guilty of just leaving a links and moving on sometimes.

But what I'm saying is using backlink packets for the sole purpose of leaving your site in the sig is like spam. How one interprets that is up for grabs.

Its spam, and I hates it lol Just my opinion though... thats actually kind of being a hypocrite though as we developed some software for a social media website that allowed us to send unsolicited emails to its users while violating the sites TOS... I have learned though and use the software with relevant messages that actually get very good responses. Just hate being a hypocrite though lol

Nothing really in the Forum TOSes that I see prohibits putting the links though. Only "hateful or Vulgar language." What if I put 2 or 3 links in the sig with the intent of using it in the future? If the owners really care they should create a minimum post requirement or timeframe for links...I guess its a gray area.

It is a grey area but if you are actually contributing to the forums with 10 good posts you should be fine adding links in your sig.
