Default Adsense Publishers Beware!

So, the new adsense interface has some powerful tools, and that's awesome.

But if you're not careful these tools could actually end up hurting your earnings rather then helping them...

Take a look:

Quote:
All ad controls are now in one place, on the Allow and block ads tab. Here, you’ll be able to filter ads from specific advertisers, categories, and ad networks. In addition, you’ll notice that we’ve updated the ad review center to make it easier to review and manage ads that have been placement targeted to your sites. You can now search for ads in the ad review center by ad type, keyword, URL, or ad network, and choose to allow or block them.
Good news right, well heck yes it is!

But...
What if you don't actually know what you're doing?

If you're not careful you could end up blocking the highest paying ads on your site and end up earning less per click. Or end up blocking some medium to low paying ads that might have astonishing CTR.

How would you decide which ads to display and which to nix?

It's a tough one. Does the new interface allow you to see which ads have been clicked in the past?

I think they still have very control on ads and publishers can't do anything they want. Because if they could, every webmaster selects highest paying keywords for displaying on his website and blocked other ads. But it will not happen. I think Google added it only for blockign some ads not for paying more to publishers.

Not sure how you can accidentally block ads.
The default is you don't block.

You are obviously blocking sites and ads that you feel
do not look or do well on your site.

Doesn't matter what one thinks, no matter what, you could
be blocking high paying ads. But high paying ads are useless
if nobody clicks.

If you block images, you are probably blocking the highest
paying ads.

I'm not looking for the highest paying, but the best performers.

Luckily, google treats people that way. They serve up the
most effective ads on top, no matter what the price per click.

Most of the time if people just relax, tweak content and traffic, google will
do the rest.

Just because it's easier does not mean you have to do it.

Paul
